Right.
I wonder what, if any, updates to the roof have to be made. At this point, you'd think those updates would have already been made if the board will be ready in a month
or they found a way around the weight?

Pretty sure AJ is on Team Short Shorts alsoAnd Otis's short shorts.
My guess is the boards today weigh about 1/6 of what they used to weigh... I moved some old tv's out of my parents basement this past weekend and it really is amazing how light the new screens are.

Just like you like you, Doc!
I did the math - technically I'm about 3/5th's of what I used to be.
Pictures and bios of the basketball players are now posted on gomason! Hope to have them memorized by the beginning of the season!

And pronunciation of their names!
Question of the day: If Wilson's middle initial is "S", why is he "AJ"?
I was told that Skinny Gunnie's assumption is correct - the modern video scoreboard is so significantly lighter than the old ones that it became a reality without reinforcing the roof. Remember that the old "The roof can't support it" line was really in response to ONE specific scoreboard - we were offered a freebie and didn't take it. Everybody lost their shit that we didn't take a free scoreboard and the response was that the roof couldn't support it. We can assume that's true because why the hell would we turn down a free board? No one ever told us "EBA CANNOT have a video scoreboard because of the roof." But we never budgeted for actually BUYING one that our roof COULD support until now.
We are all understandably thrilled by this because it's not about a scoreboard. It's about investing and reinvesting and reinvesting in the school's flagship athletic program, something that seemed to be lacking in the past. We will find many things to disagree with the AD on, because we're human, but you cannot deny that significant investment has been made in the future of Mason basketball over the past few years.
If I never see a Mason Final Four again, I'll be okay with it, but I'm ready to challenge for A10 titles and a nice streak of NCAA tournament appearances, and we just didn't used to spend the money (or spend it wisely enough) to make that happen. I'm excited to believe that that's changing. A video scoreboard isn't going to help us win a championship, but to me it's symbolic of a greater change.
Would love to see a rendering of this thing - someone please throw some pics on the boards once it's been installed!
A video scoreboard is not. A practice facility is not. A team nutritionist is not. However, those will attract better recruits, thus having better teams, thus winning more.
Concur its all about investment. Investment in a program like wise investments in a company to improve the end product will result in success.
There's an analogy somewhere about changing your oil in your car, or not doing it and having more money in the short term, and having to pay more later on down the road, but it's past my bedtime.
