Name the next head coach (a GMUJim tribute album)

I know GW has been a bit of a disappointment this year, but it's the same league that Lonergan came out of to coach them. It certainly seems Brown could handle a better league too. Might be nice to have a guy who coached against Lonergan in the past. It'd be interesting to see their records against one another when they both coached in the AE.

On another note, one of the best GMU games I saw live was up in Vermont against a Lonergan coached team. Overtime W for GMU several years ago. I recall Lonergan's post game comments annoying me, he was quite bitter about the loss. He said something like "This is George Mason, not some national power." in the local paper.

On a final note, Burlington is a great little city.
At least we would have someone who can beat GW consistently!

Bryce Drew should be on the list. He'd be a steal. I like Zach Spiker and think Ben Howland would also be a great option. Masiello is a proven liar. We don't need any more sketchy coaches.

Has there been a coach who went from women's to men's basketball? I know Westhead later coached WBB after he left Mason and later being an asst in the NBA.

Scott Cherry was an assistant at Middle Tenn. State for one season with the women's team. I'm sure it happens more often that you would think.

Scott Cherry and High Point on ESPNU right now. Announcers really talking up Cherry and High Point's success. High praise for HP's ball movement and overall offense. Put Cherry's resume on the screen which of course included GMU FF, but I didn't realize he was with WKU for a sweet 16. They just mentioned his team leads the league in scoring defense. 21 wins and counting after an NIT appearance last year...I'd be thrilled if GMU got Cherry.

At this point should we be rooting against High Point in their tournament? If they get into NCAA and pull off an upset, it might escalate Cherry out of our reach.

Sorry if this has been discussed before. Assuming we do get a new coach in the next month, or so, how do you think we are positioned relative to 20011 when the great mistake was made?

We were a dominant team in the CAA, were still making the tournament every several years, were a preseason top 25 team. We were in the process of looking for a new President. Our AD did not put a huge emphasis on winning.

We moved up to the A10, but haven't been to the tournament since 2011, and are the new bottom dweller of the A10. We have a relatively new President and a new AD with a reputation as a fund raiser seems to put a greater emphasis on winning.

Do you think we are likely to get a better, similar or worse pool of coaching candidates?
