"It marks the first time in more than a decade that the Patriots have earned a national ranking. GM last appeared in the United Soccer Coaches poll in September 2014.

This season, the Patriots are one of four teams with eight victories among the top-20 teams.

The Patriots have recorded eight wins in their first nine games for the first time in 39 years and this year's club is just the third in program history to win eight of the first nine matches of the season.
The 1981 team started 8-0-1, the 1982 squad won its first 18 games of the season and the 1985 team won its first 12 matches of the season on the way to an 18-4-0 record.

George Mason has an overall record of 8-1-0 on the season, including a mark of 2-0-0 in Atlantic 10 Conference play. The Patriots are perfect at home with a record of 5-0-0 at George Mason Stadium."

"FAIRFAX, Va. – George Mason graduate student forward Marek Gonda scored two goals in the second half to lift the Patriots to their fourth straight win with a 2-1 victory over La Salle on Saturday night at McCarthy Stadium in Philadelphia, Pa.

Gonda scored his third game-winner of the season in the 83rd minute when he found the lower right corner of the net from six yards out.

Freshman forward Martim Sereno started the play when he worked into the right side of the penalty area and sent a pass to graduate student defender Jordi Navio Sanchez, who played the ball in front to Gonda.

Gonda leads the club in goals (6) and game-winning goals (3). He has scored in three straight matches with five goals in that span, including two goals in each of the last two games.

After a scoreless first half George Mason (9-1-0, 3-0-0 A-10) took the lead over La Salle (3-5-3, 1-1-1 A-10) early in the second half."

Did they change the rules on ties? I’m seeing a lot more ties than I’m used to. Or is this just a lack of scoring in extra time?

"No OT in the regular season

The rule: The NCAA Playing Rules Oversight Panel changed overtime rules in 2022. Now, regular season matches that are tied at the end of the 90 minutes of regulation will end in a tie. Previously, college soccer games in a stalemate after full time would enter two 10-minute periods of sudden-death overtime, known colloquially as 'golden goal' rules, and games would only end in a tie if the score remained even after 110 minutes.

What it means: The rule change cuts down the total minutes of soccer a team can play over the course of the season and also evens out each team's schedule, meaning everyone has played the same amount of minutes and no team will have played significantly more than any opponent (with the fatigue that comes with that)."

Maryland up to #9, big show down with them next Tuesday, 10/15 at 7pm in College Park (might have to make the trip up for that - if anyone is going let me know).

For the first time in my life, I looked up the selection process/show date for Men's soccer. Top 16 seeds get 1st round bye, otherwise teams 17 through 48 will play 1st round games on 11/21 at campus sites.

Selection Process
The 2024 NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Championship provides for a field of 48 teams to compete in a single-elimination tournament. Twenty-two conference champions qualify automatically; the balance of the field is selected at large by the NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Committee. The teams will be seeded so that 16 of the 48 teams will receive a First Round bye and automatically advance to the Second Round.

Selection Show | November 18, 2024
The 2024 NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Championship bracket will be announced the Monday prior to the first round of competition.

First Round | November 21, 2024
Sixteen single-elimination first-round games will be conducted at non-predetermined campus sites. The winning team from each game will advance to the second round.

Second Round | November 24, 2024
Sixteen single-elimination second-round games will be conducted at non-predetermined campus sites. The winning team from each game will advance to the third round.

If we make the final 4 (aka College Cup), the games would be Dec 13 and 16th, 25 mins away in Cary, NC from our game at Duke on the 17th :)
