To be fair, the women's team lost to an undefeated team. The men were just lucky to be there after crapping their shorts to start the season. And even though URI had the same conference record as us, they were 15-4 and we were 9-8. So, I wouldn't necessarily call it crappy their shorts when they were the underdog in both those games.

They had a tantalizing finish to last season, making it to the A10 championship game. They also won the A10 in 2013 and made it to the second round of the NCAA that year, so it hasn’t been quite a decade of suck.

He should be on the hot seat, though. No reason to be bad with the DMV recruiting area (and DC United’s academy right down the road).

George Mason senior Tunde Akinlosotu and La Salle senior Pat McCarthy were named Atlantic 10 Conference men’s soccer Co-Offensive Players of the Week. Duquesne senior Robbie McKelvey earned the A-10 Defensive Player of the Week. vcu freshman Maverick McGann was named the league Rookie of the Week. The awards, the first weekly honors of the 2019 season, were for games played Aug. 29 – Sept. 1.

Akinlosotu, a forward from Bowie, Md., scored the game-winning goal in the 32nd minute in Mason's season-opening 2-1 victory over local rival American on Friday at George Mason Stadium. Akinlosotu’s goal came on a rebound that he buried into the left corner, breaking a 1-1 tie.

They lost to Navy Monday.

"Tough result tonight but the guys played well," Mason head coach Greg Andrulis said. "We had some quality chances but we were a little off in the final third. The Navy team played well and the goal scored against us was a top-class strike in the upper 90. Lots of positives to build on as we move forward with this stretch of road games."

Actually started talking about getting rid of the coach about three seasons ago. And I also said at the beginning of the season he should be on the hot seat and there is no reason for Mason to suck in soccer. I’m not quite sure what you are referring to about inconsistent.

I can vouch for Gem. He and I have been skeptical of Greg for years. So much talent up there and hardly any top 100 kids commit. Soccer should be our biggest success story in Mason athletics. Maybe its the conference?

I was at Tuesday's game (1-1 tie against Bucknell). Mason scored first, and then let off the gas till it went to OT and then double OT. Bucknell scored off a PK.

Bucknell should have won, they had a bunch of shots that just missed or bounced off something.
