Meet and Greet with Coach Paulsen

So we need a separate building so they can shoot around at 10pm? I understand letting them shoot any time they want, but how about instead of raising millions for a building, we pay an undergrad 10/hr to be there at late hours to keep the place open? Or have a servirity guard that will open the place up until 1am?

They are on a completely different time schedule as us (or me, at least). I know I only got started at 10pm in college! If they want to work on their game at 3 in the morning I say let them!

You're joking right? Or do you really not get it?

You mean for some reason we need 18yos to open a door and babysit other 18yos while they shoot hoops?

You mean one of the best research universities with access to technology, can't give electronic access cards to young adults to get in and shoot hoops when they want?

No wonder we are doomed as a society.

(This is not a judgement on a new facility, just a judgement on short term solutions while long term ones are figured out....)

EBA is already open to them to come in and shoot on select nights when they aren't setting for an event. While I completely agree that we need a 24/7 basketball dedicated facility, it's not like the players don't ever have anywhere to workout after hours.

These things get done quick when you have alumni giving money without the AD having to ask. Does Brad really need to ask for money? We are the biggest school, but our Alumni arent stepping up. Brian.

Seriously, you don't think major athletics programs don't conduct campaigns and outline their plans and ASK for money? Brad Edwards doesn't need to ask for money or fundraise? Hello, that is pretty much his job. How many alumni at large even know that we have a practice facility on the table? YOU HAVE TO TELL THEM! Tired of the f*cking lazy a** approach of our past where we think we'll just put a bucket outside the Field House and alums will drop by daily and dump in cash.

Curious whether season ticket holders on here have agreed to contribute an additional 50 years of basketball/facilities upgrade donation with their renewals?

I don't expect they'll get close to the number they need just from this solicitation, but I like that they shared the goal and asked for assistance getting there. Until we have our own T. Boone, Jerry Jones or Phil Knight as an alumni this is probably how we're going to have to do things.

Other schools have boosters that the AD goes to . We dont. If we did, we would already have a practice facility and probably OCM as head coach.

They should be emailing every alumni asking. There really isn't any reason that only ticket holders and people who go digging for it should know about the practice facility. Send out an email with the renderings and state how basketball is the gateway to the university and hope for the best.

They should have a website with all the details and renderings and a funding counter. Leverage what works with crowd funding campaigns and give people a visual. I'd be happy to offer technical assistance if needed. I tried to suggest they do that for the baseball stadium, and I think I know why they didn't, but this situation is a better fit because it's not a niche audience. Lots of people would care, if they only knew about it!

Look at that, within an hour we got multiple creative and common sense ideas, along with offers to provide help and technical assistance.

Ok everyone is talking about meet and greet. No one has yet to comment on that watered down non conference schedule we have. In my four years as a student I have never seen such a horrible no conference schedule. How do we possibly prepare for the A10 with a schedule like this? We glorify a coach who went 11-21 with an extension? Yes Paulsen has a winning personality and knows how to win the crowd over, but what ever happen to great/good seasons equals compensation. We really fumbled the ball on this one. Let's get ready for a long A10 season!!!!

The team is still very young and needs to get wins. The post season is very unlikely, so the need to schedule up is not there. For this season - I'm glad I can look at the non-com and point to games GMU should win. Only game/team I have issues with is the Lebanon Valley Flying Dutchmen.

Let's see, Penn State comes to Fairfax in 2017-18, and it is rare a Big 10 school comes to Fairfax, so I consider that a big gain. Playing an Ivy League school in the Cathedral of College Basketball, that is a big deal. Towson, they could be on their way back up. We know the story with the D3 school game, and there is usually a buy game or two thrown in there, which is nothing new. Northern Iowa is a good pull, and getting JMU back on the schedule that should have never left is good for rivalry purposes. I don't think the OOC is as bad as some of y'all think.

Yeah, but we didn't get Kentucky and Duke to come play in Fairfax, so Paulsen clearly sucks.

Houston's good - the schedule isn't nearly as cupcakey as Fordham's last year. (they were obviously prepared for A-10 play) Soft scheduling could cost a team if they have a shot at the tourney (Bonnie's last year) but the isn't the case for us this year.

I love some of the ideas that have been posted for fundraising and in general, but instead of posting them here has anyone pitched them to Brad or Jennifer Montgomery who is in charge of fundraising for athletics projects?
