GIVING DAY 2023
This is a minor detail but I think not having many Noon-late afternoon tip times on saturday or sunday hurts a bit. If alum or locals want to catch a game or two it's easier to schedule and make a plan for this time period instead of 7 pm. I know theres kids sports but some weekends it definitely works depending on the month
And this is where we run into the "impossible to please everyone" dynamic, because I personally hate the noon weekend tips. They are almost always our lowest attended games it seems.

Television dictates most game times. It's not as big of a deal if you're on ESPN+, but if you're playing on USA, or CBSSN, TV has some; if not all, of the influence on game time.

That was a factor in the (one) game I decided to attend this year. Saturday, less traffic. 4:00 start. Home by 8:00, not 11:00.

The only tweak I could ever imagine being done to gametimes is like making weeknight games 730 instead of 7 which would give folks a little bit more time to get out to Fairfax. I know they had a few 9pm games during the week and when I was younger that was nice but that would totally discount the family crowd for a weeknight.

The weeknight games used to start at 7:30 p.m. The reason given for the change was to increase the number of families attending games on weeknights.

Yeah and I can't imagine them moving it back unless it really moves the needle which it wont'.

The program really needs to have substantial success once again on the court. Case closed.

Also no one has really mentioned the Masonettes or Cheerleaders. That's because they might as well not be there this year. I don't have any insight to what has happened there, but we went from a dance team, co-ed cheer, and all-girls cheer that would go to competitions each year to a couple of depleted organizations who look like they have zero direction. I don't even think there is a co-ed cheer team any more. So, and not that they were ever all that helpful in getting chants started, now all we have in that department are the members of the Green Machine (thank goodness for them).

Yes, but even TGM has been criticized on here.

Athletic department decimated funding about 5 years ago for cheer and dance.

It is embarrassing how much a message on the video board that says STAND UP GET LOUD or something like that would help. Deploy it IN GAME. Instead every single prompt to cheer is during a timeout ("cheer for t-shirts!" f**k you.)

The crowd at the Dayton game didn't care that it was a one possession game with a minute to go. Completely embarrassing, but now that we have a video board there's some really low-hanging fruit we can knock off. If we have to literally tell people to stand up, then so be it, because we do, because otherwise they'll be sitting on their thumbs.

Wasn't that because all the squad cared about was the tournaments in Florida that had nothing to do with NCAA athletics? I just got through season 2 of Cheer on netflix and I totally understand why Edwards cut it

I think the NCAA also gave permission to do it because they didn’t designate it a sport (which would have helped with title IX compliance). The stated reasoning was something to do with concussion issues and rehab costs I think.

We now rival Richmond when it comes to the sweater-vest wearing retirement crowd, and rival JMU when it comes to draconian ushers telling fans to sit down and not yell. Sad state... but as others said - all will get better with winning.

I do request that the AD re-instruct ushers on what to tell patrons who complain about someone standing or cheering. It's a game, not a play. If they want to see a theatrical production, they should go across the street.

Had a chance to take in the full "Lights Out" intro video tonight and totally agree it misses the mark some. Too long and the music/song (J. Cole) is just not uplifting music and brings no hype or enthusiasm to the start of the game. Majority of the fans were just standing and golf clapping during it.

Good highlights and video but needs to be cut in half and better hype music. Learfield or whomever from Mason who put it together needs to do a better job.... especially if we are paying an outside consulting company to put that together.

The students were in a coma until the 2nd half. Doc Nix and KE actually came over to the student section to get them up and cheering and it worked. They were loud and cheering 2nd half and got the old George Mason cheer going again. Seems there needs to be someone monitoring the student section and just work on getting them up and cheering all game. Should not be the responsibility of the head coach each game. Cmon Mason. Jesus

Ronnie had the best game of his career tonight. This was the first time I felt like I was seeing what coaches have said they’ve seen in him in practices. It’s clearly there, he’s obviously not the best player on the court, but I saw flashes tonight of a solid 6th man. Hope he builds on it on Wednesday.

It’s go time for him if he wants a spot on the team going forward. I too liked what I saw tonight. Even the missed three he had was at least on target and good shot selection. Hopefully he can build some consistency.

The student section was great last night in the second half. I give credit to the Patriot Club admin that used signs via Gunston to get them to stand.

Then, my family's absolutely favorite Green Machine band member, Matty Ice, came over the student section and convinced them to do the George/Mason chant with the Green Machine on the other side, and finally the rest of the arena joining in a little bit. He is the one that does the loud stomping for Defense chants and is just generally very active and does as much as one person can do to improve the atmosphere.
