Hi everyone, first time poster and hopefully soon-to-be Mason fan here. Family and I moved down from New England, and we are conveniently about a half hour from GMU (I have even been to the famous Fat Tuesday's for live music). We like going to games and I've a soft spot for mid-major basketball, so here we are.

Looks like the team is in rebuilding mode with a questionable roster left by a sub-optimal coach, which reminds me a lot of our beloved Albany Great Danes (wife's alma mater) when we started following them back in 2002. After a couple of just horrid years (including a 3-win season with effectively an eight-man roster that finished one game with four guys on the court), things picked up and the team has since won their conference tourney five times (including last year's storybook buzzer beater by the kid who lost his mom to cancer weeks before - I was there and it was just bedlam).
I'm hoping Mason will follow a similar trajectory in a less painful fashion and will fill the place out a bit more as time goes on. On that note, there seems to be no shortage of tickets but they are a bit pricier than what we're used to in the America (L)East - do they typically have promotions direct or through retailers?

Anyway, it looks like a good forum, and I'm looking forward to catching a few games this year.

Yes, welcome aboard! Hope to see you on Saturday, I believe a meet and greet is also included, so there will be the chance to chat with Coach Paulsen and the players and get their perspective. I sure wish you could have experienced the Coach Larranaga era, but we're now moving forward and the games are a good, family friendly experience (especially since we don't have to curse at Paul Hewitt's "game management" skills any longer). Feel free to give the ticket office a ring and see what offers they have.

Introduce yourself Saturday. We're pretty obvious. We're the guys in our 40s and 50s at all the games! If we look tired, angry, and bitter it's us!

We're not all in our 40's and 50's. I'm 30 but have a Dad Bod like my 40 and 50 year old brethren and feel like an 80 year old man after I play flag football.

Well, you're certainly getting in on the ground floor, that's for sure. Here's hoping you enjoy the ride.

It was kind of you to call The Virus "sub-optimal". He's sub-optimal in the same way that Giselle is a decent looking girl.

As for filling the place out, the Patriot Center/Eagle Bank Arena/Vault is just too big for the basketball team's needs. It'll almost never be PACKED, but during good years, it's a good crowd.

You should know, our band is the best in the country, no lie. It's really worth going to games just to see them.

Hey S-money - I'm a nova transplant and grew up down the street from Doc Sauers. Went to the same HS as his son Steve who was a pretty good player.

Anyways, welcome to the board. I usually keep an eye on UAlbany and Siena as well.

Thanks everyone for the replies - I'm already looking forward to the season. Looks like I won't be able to make the scrimmage but hope to see your tired, angry, bitter spirits lift this season!

I am confident they will. We've just been so used to misery.

Welcome aboard S-Money - I look forward to run into you at the Pat Dome and hook you up with Jollay and Snowball for some shots, beer and awkward hot tub moments.

Go Mason!

If those attending the scrimmage aren't too busy trying to figure out which fans are posters on the board, I expect lots of reports on reactions to the session!

Weak fan showing and weak showing on the court by these guys.

Without Holloway, who is injured, Marko was our best player. We are screwed.

We have no one on the wing, Grayer and Abram are two years away.

During the Q&A one of the "fans" asked where Corey Edwards was...... face palm

Free pizza was awesome though.

good thing we got that negative post outta the way.

I heard it looked a hell of a lot better than what we put up with over the last few seasons.

Maybe my guys went to the wrong gym.....

I showed up and gave my opinion, most of the this board doesn't go to shit.

Your opinion was negative and I have no problem with that. But remember you went to practice/scrimmage. If you aren't accustom to these then you probably don't know what to look for. Just my opinion.
