GMU: Where Construction is Tradition

During his halftime interview on MASN, Edwards certainly sounded like it is definitely happening.

He said it's "the next step in the program's development" and something we need to have since we decided to join the A-10 and "compete with the big boys."

It's so nice to have an administration that understands the value of athletics to the university, and is willing to give DP what he needs to build a program capable of competing for conference titles.

Now I might have to wear a dress when I hand deliver my check. All this new rational strategy from the AD is giving me PTSD.

I'd wish we'd build something bigger so it can last longer without having to renovate or expand 10 years down the line.

The plans as stated seem plenty big to include a separate athletic academic center. And it slows for the future replacement of the Pat Dome.

I just hope they don't go cheap and really make this place 1st class. The locker rooms and players lounge need to be really tricked out and have all the necessary amenities. The guys will spend the majority of their time in the new facility so I really hope they hit a home run with the design. Also would be nice to have a hall of fame hallway or something that highlights players and team accomplishments.

You're right, but we also have red tape that the state will most likely impose. Luckily, this isn't using university funds since the new collegiate athletics spending law goes into effect June of this year.

And y'all are right. We really need to go all out with this facility. Yeah we aren't dropping $25M on a facility (our national championship-less friends down in Richmond), but good and aesthetically pleasing designs don't have to be expensive. A little can go a long way. Mason has been good with that.

Well, keep in mind that the RAC cost $26 million. So you can spin it as a $12 million or so addition to a $26 million project or $38 million in total. That ain't shabby.

JPJ at UVa cost 131 million to build. (I think that was only construction cost) I think getting that much out of Va. for a new multipurpose venue is gonna be a tough sell, with EBA having only 30 years in age and the seeming ability to handle most events in a reasonable fashion (those that can't will go to other options such as Verizon.)

Paul Tudor Jones gave UVA $35 million to name the arena after his father.

UVA's website claims that: "John Paul Jones Arena is the first facility in the country built by a public university almost entirely from private funds." I don't know how much public money was spent but I'm sure the info is available somewhere.

This is where we should be snuggling up to Ted Leonsis. Partner with him in a new facility and let him use it for exhibitions (wizards, capitals, etc)

If the university is in a capital campaign for half a bil then this all makes tremendous sense. The power of the whole is much smarter. Ask vcu :super angry:

I drive through the Mason campus on the weekly basis and cannot figure out the building site for the new PC.
Has the administration proposed any locations?
