Future Arena....Imagine walking thru a circular mall type and looking over the rail, down into a bowl where a bball game is going on. Kinda like merging Tysons Corner into EBA. Bet those soccer mom's would love hitting up EBA for a mani-pedi while dad and the kids are at the game...downstairs. Or visit The Jollay Wax Museum on the lower concourse. Or the Old Cuban surfing simulator. Or the Tom O'Connor house of Horror's.

The Wegman's of sports arena's.

disclaimer...on a lot of cold meds.

Doc Nix needs to come over more to the student section and lead them in cheers during long timeouts. Platoon members, if we still have a platoon, need to talk to the student president and see what more can be done with students cheering.

We need to put the student section next to the Green Machine. I've never understood why our student section sits behind the basket that our team shoots at in the 2nd half. :bricks:
Totally a**-backwards.

Technically, both sides are supposed to comprise the student section. The ROTC group did a pretty good job of heckling, but those students were about as passive as the ones on the other end. :sadtongue:

We could pipe in opera music. That seems to be the mindset of those near me.

Super glad we got a video board to show our most stoned student athletes tell me their favorite type of Italian food, but not to show video replays of big plays during games.

I thought the corner boards were supposed to keep ad's off during TV timeouts and leave the game stats (FG percentage, rebounds, etc) up. That hasn't been the case all season.

I know the topic of the lack of crowd enthusiasm comes up basically after every home game along with the attendance numbers. Last night was another pathetic showing. I understand it was a week night game and Umass might not be an opponent that gets people excited but what does everyone think can be done that the school is not doing?
Cheap/easy fixes?
Expensive/hard fixes?
Things that would excite or bring out more students?
Things that would bring out the local community to support the team?
What things would help get the people that are attending to actually be invested in what is going on in the game and not on their cell phones?

I don’t really have answers to these questions, but I think ideas should be gathered and dropped off to the athletic departments door.

Winning helps everything, people are more invested in winning programs. I realize the A-10 has had down years the past 2 seasons but if you look at the rosters around the league next year it’ll start to get better.
I remember whose weeks under Coach L when we’d crack the top 25 and it felt like our attendance would increase a little and the attention we’d get would increase with highlights on ESPN.

I personally would like alcohol served at the concessions, I understand people’s point that it may take away from donations for the green and gold rooms. I don’t think it would have much of an impact. The donors would get their free beer before the game and during halftime still and the general public can buy it at the concessions. vcu started selling beer to the general public this season. A local brewery Hardywood even has a team colored can they sell during the games. I’d be interested in seeing the positives and negatives of this.

Key word = Winning Program. While atop the standings, the snobby community still thinks we are below their standards. They basically want a top 25 team every year. So until that happens, we won't get much out of ticket holders. As for students, they could get creative and do chants with the band but unless you give them an academic credit, it ain't happening. Like Brad said, we are a major university in a major market, we should act like one. Question is are we major or just acting?

Judging from the amount of emails and tweets about the basketball programs as well as ticket deals, I can’t help but think the AD has tried a lot of different paths for student or community turnout and engagement. Same old until the program consistently wins year over year.

....putting this in the correct thread.

My last year in 2013 the students stood for the entirety of the game, outside of timeouts/halftime. The years of losing that followed has definitely hurt, hopefully we can be consistently relevant for the fans to feel/want to be more engaged. But, even going back to when the student section was decent there was never cohesion between everyone. We'd try to jump up and down & yell during opening tip and crucial moments, but only small groups within the student section would partake. Others would look at you and have no idea what you're doing. Probably the product of a good chunk of students just not knowing/understanding what a good student section at a CBB game should be. Also, would it kill students to wear school colors in the student section? Nothing would irritate me more than seeing kids wearing red, or a Tech shirt.

A crazy, dedicated student section can go a long way to masking the complacency of the rest of the arena. Hopefully we get there someday.

Mason police need to loosen up. Mason students are being arrested for J walking, meanwhile WVU students are running wild having riots. I don’t want to condone drinking, but let these students live a little, and they will show up at games relaxed and excited.

fortunately, students are scared to have fun.

I've said this before but homecoming should be the first Saturday home game of the season. Start the season on a high note, and maybe the students will continue to come throughout the season. Maybe they would even organize their own tailgate.

Perhaps a Fraternity corn hole tournament in the parking lot before a home game.

Since we have message board dead horse season early on here I’ll continue to help the thread.

Why hasn’t the PA announcer been fired?
Bring back T-shirt guy!
What’s the deal with shoot for 2 or 3?
Zombie nation needs to be changed.
Retire numbers in the ceiling.
Why can’t there be tailgates all the time?
Why is the gold room so small?
Why doesn’t the arena have luxury suites?

Am I missing anything?:crazytongue:
