GIVING DAY 2023
A Green Machiner explained to me that the 'GMU what' chant had a different thing for each guy ... and the only one I can remember right now was for Marco - "GMU what? clap clap clap -- for Serbia!"

I think it's kind of falling apart lately.

That was definitely never a thing in the student section. This is the kind of disconnect, that if were eliminated, could be a small step to improving atmosphere.

the ladies, children and old men who haven't had fun in years should sit in a sound proof section where they can enjoy their knitting and not be bothered by any noises that may make them think they are at a real school's basketball game. I am sorry but 75% of the population that attends these Mason games are boring as hell. Thankfully they pay to be boring and unimpressed by people who want to be rowdy and have fun at these games. Super frustrating to be shushed by a 70 year old man who's hearing aids are raised too high so they don't want us to yell. Or the dirty looks from the "family man" when we get at the refs for calling a fourth bs call on Jalen. The other 25% of fans are awesome. I feel like this message board has a good amount of people from both groups.

OK, our section is about as fun as it can be, we cheer (very) loudly, we stand up at exciting moments in the game, and we're in our 30s and 40s and 50s and wear crazy gear (funny hats, camo, etc.). But I don't think we have to replicate a sex act in front of women and small kids after a made free throw. If you think that makes you cool, then have at it.

I think you replied to the wrong poster. Never said anything about such a grotesque and sinful sex act in front of women and children. I am APPALLED

Agreed - I read your post again for any sign of a sex act - couldn't find any - and i looked hard.

In future use a separate post to gripe about the grumpy old farts at EBA. What I was talking about was having my original post on not doing the "suck on that" chant in our section QUOTED (at 9:18 am) when I was informed that the elderly, women and children need to go find some other sound proof section of the Pat Dome.

I have a student in my 102 class this semester who is part of a group on campus that tries to drive student turnout to games. (Basketball in the winter, baseball in the spring). And she said they averaged over 900 students a game this year in basketball. Do we have anything like that at Mason (student-led and volunteer?)

Not a bad idea. Perhaps Platoon members can volunteer. Maybe some of the marketing or sports management classes could do this as a group project. Or create an internship program through the athletic dept where they focus on getting students out.

We have a group called the G-Men. It's those guys in morph suits, usually headed by one guy in a suit. A kid who's an undergrad in SAE runs it and is usually the guy in the suit. I'm not entirely sure how much responsibility they have in getting people to turn out vs. getting them pumped up once they're there though. Could text him about it if anyone wants more info. Seems like if it was a student job and they were given some license to go wild in the student section it could become a real thing.

Isn't this what the Patriot Platoon is? They just need a few leaders to take charge in driving student turnout. They are on social media, they are all students - no reason why they can't help their own cause.
