Awful. Can he redshirt?

Yes - https://informedathlete.com/medical-hardship-waiver-rules/:

"NCAA Division I – An athlete must not have participated in more than three contests or 30 percent of their season schedule (whichever is greater) and not after the halfway point of the season (based on the number of contests rather than a particular date)."

Kier has played in 9 of the Patriots' first 16 games. The Patriots have 32 scheduled regular season games (including 1 A10 tournament game). He has played in just 28% of the scheduled games (9/32), and the 16th Mason game was the final scheduled game in the first half of the season.

Of course, Jim may be correct that Justin may not want to spend a 5th year in school.

Don’t forget Otis. The program never confirmed but it seemed pretty clear he wasn’t 100% most of last year, not just after vcu.
Otis I always kinda chalked up to fatigue because he played like every minute possible for years. Maybe he had something small and nagging but Boyd was hitting the Green Machine with his 3’s last year and Kier was taking NBA range shots instead of slashing to the rim this year. When a players game fundamentally changes, it’s clear it’s time to hit Doc’s office.

gosh darn. Probably my favorite player to watch since Coach L left.

Serious question for anyone more connected than I, how is our medical staff? This is the second player that we haven’t shut down when it was probably the better move and then had it end an entire season down the road. Boyd last year and Kier this year were clearly hurt but we let them go for it. But I understand that when guys want to play it’s probably hard to tell them no.

Ugh, I thought the same question, but didn't want to cast aspersions. Since it's out though, wtf is going on?

Otis tweeted a post-op photo of a wrapped knee.

Boyd should have been shut down last year.

Kier I bet came back too early or played too many minutes too fast, one of the two.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/spor...er-george-mason-basketball-george-washington/:

"George Mason had taken a conservative approach after Kier’s initial injury; he did not undergo surgery and was careful not to rush back. There was a concern, however, he could suffer the same setback.

After Kier sat out the first six games, Paulsen gradually increased his playing time. Kier is averaging 9.6 points and 3.6 rebounds in 22.6 minutes while shooting 46 percent from both the field and three-point line and 85 percent from the free throw line.

During his reintegration, Kier also missed one game with an unrelated ankle injury."

AJ has been pretty inefficient offensively this year. If he bumps up his efficiency like this, we're a MUCH different team.
