GIVING DAY 2023
Is this one on ESPN+? Not going to make the trip up to Philly after how we’ve played these last 3 games. I’ve gone to the LaSalle games in the past though and they are a great time, fun atmosphere in their little high school gym up there.

We should win this one by 5, but I wouldn’t be surprised if we drop another stinker the way we’ve been playing.

69-62 LaSalle

Just remember.....if wr all agree Paulsen is not the answer and must go.....we have to accept becoming a dumpster fire NOW to start to force the issue.

Staying mediocre will only leave us just hanging on till the possibility of a new AD or Pres situations get sorted out to make a change. It needs to be an obvious "fix it now" situation.

I don't think so...if you think about it in college football terms, we haven't been "bowl eligible" the entire time he's been here (plus the Hewitt tenure), which is almost 10 years at this point. If Edwards has any ambition in him at all for the men's basketball team, you can't leave a guy here long-term who has never been to a meaningful post-season (included NIT in this), or even made the semifinals of the conference championship tournament. I mean, even our women's team has been to the NIT recently (and they used to be a laughing stock).

The M in GMU...stands for Mediocre. They love being mediocre bc everyone keeps their jobs and does the minimum.

No offense but this is a terrible analogy until the field for the NCAA men’s basketball tournament gets expanded to 180 and teams routinely get at-large bids with .500 records like they do in football.

as mentioned, the next two games are do or die to keep us out of the PIG. We only get one shot at Lasalle, gotta win it for tiebreakers.

The athletic department published the rationale for keeping paulsen. He’s not going anywhere unless we have at least back to back terrible seasons.

ACTIVATING SUCCESS IN THE ATLANTIC 10
Over the last three seasons, George Mason has become one of the most consistent programs in the A-10. The Patriots are one of just four programs to post a league record of .500 or better in each of the past three campaigns. The other programs are Rhode Island, St. Bonaventure and vcu. Mason has averaged 9.7 A-10 wins over the past three seasons. The Patriots averaged 4.3 conference victories over their first three seasons in the league.

Well, I am including the NIT which brings it up to 100 teams. But the point still remains that we haven’t even come close to either tournament since Hewitt blew a massive lead to Northeastern in the CAA semifinals his first season. And if this season continues the go the way it has the last three games and next year is no better, I can’t imagine keeping Paulsen around any longer.

I don't believe that Edwards has the authority to fire the men's basketball coach, although he could recommend doing so.
Agreed, but putting all the if's, ands and buts in posts gets tedious and I was just responding to the whole conversation. To summarize my understanding, it is effectively Brad's call (if he can justify it and pay for it) but the President, BOV have veto power. I'd say it is 90% in Brad's hands if I had to estimate it. So, I just use Brad as the shorthand for the whole process. Plus, it would have taken away my opportunity to make a snarky comment about the hiring of Darryl "The Ghost" Green. ;-)

To put this in perspective, the rest of the A-10 in the same time period (2012-2019)

vcu: NCAA x7
Dayton: NCAA x4, NIT x2
Davidson: NCAA x4, NIT x3
Rhode Island: NCAA x2, NIT x1
Richmond: NIT x2
St. Bonaventure: NCAA x2, NIT x1
La Salle: NCAA x1, NIT x1
St. Louis: NCAA x4
George Washington: NCAA x1, NIT x2
UMass: NCAA x1, NIT x2
St. Joes: NCAA x2, NIT x2
Duquesne -
Fordham -
George Mason-

There are three teams who haven't made a meaningful postseason in that time-frame, Fordham, Duquesne (which is probably going to change this season), and us.

This is why people get accused of rooting for the team to lose on here though . . .

I typically don't root for us to lose.

The question is are we at the tipping point---holding out hope and plod along for the next few years or burn it down so we can move on?

Paulsen was good to clean up the mess. However I have reached the point where I don't think there is a next level for him in this league.

Anytime you're in the same ballpark as Fordham, it's time to push the panic button....

If I remember correctly you accused me of that. My donations speak against that Now you’ve been on the hate paulsen train. Very weird
Think you're confusing me with others. I don't think anyone on here wants Mason to lose under any circumstances. If I've ever accused you of that (I don't think that I have), I'm sorry.

I've been as high and low on Paulsen as any others at different times. I think he is a fantastic person that has brought in and developed a group of young men that I can be proud represent this university. I'm just not as proud of the product on the court. Particularly the offense.

At the same time I've insinuated that Pauslen saved us from the trainwreck of Paul Hewitt, I doubted him heavily at times last season. I continue to doubt his ability to take Mason to the next level. He has certain strengths, but if he is going to have sustained success here, he has to surround himself with people that can offset his weaknesses. He needs an assistant that can run a more creative offense, and he may need an assistant that can recruit quality big men.
