Game Thread: Mason (11-2) vs. vcu (10-3), Sunday, January 5th, 12:00 PM

I think the key to this game will be Gonar. If his mid range game gets going it's going to disturb their press. They do play a smaller lineup so he should have a height advantage. They'll have Jenkins on Miller.

If Gonar is ever our key to win I think we are in huge trouble. Like every time we play vcu, I think this one is up to Hartwell and XJ to be able to limit turnovers and quickly break their press to give us time to set up an offense.

not only the guard play, but also the ability to crash the glass on both sides. I think with miller and AJ helping Oduro they’ll be ok rebounding. But they’ll have to break the press and penetrate much better on offense to have a chance.

Heading to my first Mason game since 2007 (I'm a vcu fan, but from up here). Generally root for Mason to do well, so I don't bombard this board when we play. Old Army buddy and I are getting together for this, I see there's set tailgate dates and this is not listed. Best bet for pre-game is Brions? Probably end up there afterwards to watch the Vikings/Saints game afterwards. I wish the VFW post was a little closer, but it's an early tip off regardless.

If open, Oh George has way better food and a great bourbon/rye selection. They also take reservations.

You seem too kind for a vcu fan, lol. Anyway, if you want pregame food/drink there is university mall. If you want to get looks from Mason fans who generally dont like seeing vcu fans, go to Brion's. But if you don't start anything and be friendly you'll be fine, which judging from your post you seem fine. Brion's directly supports Mason athletics.

There are other options in University Mall as well, but your best "pregame atmosphere" is Brion's. I know someone suggested Oh George, but a few of us haven't had such great experiences there and I am not sure that they directly give back to athletics.

You'll see that Mason has definitely upgraded Eaglebank Arena. The food selection is better, the lights go off during introductions and the general gameday experience inside the arena is better.

Yessir - well, Pathfinder qualified (wasn't part of a Pathfinder Company when those were still around). I graduated in 2012 from the course at Benning.

I agree with your take here, and add Kier and javon who will also have to handle the ball.

But screw trying to set up our “offense.” Break the press go to the basket let AJ and miller throw down some dunks off easy dump offs or find a shooter in the corner.

I’m over our dribble handoff and do nothing but take difficult shots offense. We have better depth and athleticism to run this year. No better time to try it and get some easy buckets.

I'm guessing it's a version of how one might try to pronounce GMU as a word---goomoo. Something like calling IUPUI oo--ee-poo-ee.

I think I read it once as like they see Mason as some like oozing slime or something that is dying and going gooo moooooo as it melts and moves lol. Its quite strange.
