To have a terrible night, not have your best player and still win? Yes please.

Yes, Maryland will be ugly for us, but at this point, I really don't care. Anything other than a blowout against them is a win for me at this point.

I mean, it's going to be a blowout, probably, but that doesn't bother me. They're the number 6 team in the country. They're SUPPOSED to destroy us. There are literally no bad outcomes possible vs. Maryland that don't involve injuries.

We typically would have lost at least one of these first five games. Great start to the season. How can you not love seeing AJ post a double double despite a really bad night. His jump from the his two seasons is so great to see.

Paulsen continues to coach us into ruts. AJ at the 5 hasn’t worked for two seasons but we should totally do it in crunch time. Thank god simpkins yelled to foul dike.

A win is a win is a win. I'll take the ugly to go along with the good. 5 - 0 with no seniors, not bad. Last year we lost games we should win, this year we're winning the games we should win. Tonight was as ugly as it gets......... but we won.

Maybe I’m off based but I think Loyola was out coached.
Loyola lost because their coach didn't take Dike out on the offensive side of the ball. He missed 5 of 6, maybe 7 of 8 at the line which would have come close to sealing the deal for them.

Greg Calixte had a bad game tonight. He looked passive on offense and took himself out of a lot of plays. Fouled out with 2:37 to go in the game. I mean, it's either AJ at the 5 or a freshman. Thought Oduro had some good moves on offense, but didn't really impress on the defensive side of the ball tonight.

Dike didn't go to the line or get fouled after Calixte fouled out. They also only gave one one offensive rebound.

The bigger story was how bad the offense looked. Loyola did a lot of double and triple teaming when the ball got into the post and our players need to do a better job of passing out of those situations and finding the open players.

I will say, also, the defense scheme does feel a little sketchy. The 3 cheating way to the inside to block cutting lanes, but leaving shooters wide open and then we can't seem to stop the pass and we're late closing on a lot of these shots. We also seem to get real flummoxed on ball screens and teams are getting us into weird shapes because of it. Our 1-2-2 zone press doesn't look all that intimidating to me, either.

Can we also at least once, try to pass it to the cutting big man on the pick and roll? I mean, what's the point of a pick and roll if you literally never look to pass it to the big rolling to the basket?

I did see Paulsen indicating to foul from my seat. Didn't notice Simpkins doing it too.

So, I'm not sure how having Oduro in there would have helped? Looking at the play where Scott gets the offensive board and dunk. Scott sets a high ball screen and AJ comes out. Hartwell runs into Scott and lets his man free to the basket. AJ picks up the guard and recovers and alters the shot and it doesn't go, but no one is there to pick up Scott so he rumbles in with the putback. The other three players for Loyola are camped on the perimeter. You think Oduro could have done what AJ did on that play or do you think that would have been an easy layup?

The very next play, Scott gets the ball at the elbow, finds Kostecka posted up against Greene and Kostecka just turns and shoots over him. Again, you've got three players camped out on the perimeter, Scott at the elbow, and Kostecka isolated against Greene. I'm not sure how Oduro helps on that play either.

We had nobody clogging the paint for that time. Holcombe and the dude with the nelly eye patch were both able to exploit the mismatches and lack of inside presence. So many second chance points when we had two point guards and 0 centers playing. I would have even preferred mar in with aj and miller. But instead we went XJ, hartwell,
Javon, Miller and AJ and it consistently didn’t work.

If you're talking about earlier in the game, I can agree with that.

But I'll also say, I think the bigger problem was passing out of the double/triple teams they were throwing at us. Too many players (AJ mostly, but others as well) put their heads down and decided they were going to try to bully their way to the basket.

If we're really gonna question DP on a lineup, that stretch with both Mar and JDS was an absolute chaos lineup. There was no way we were holding our 7 point lead with both of them in.
