Copes may go down as the biggest bust in Mason history... and jonny is softer than the stay puft marshmallow man. Our best scorer, has got to be the most inconsistent player I have ever seen.

Flipping through channels, I happened to see an energized, aggressive (and terribly undermanned) ODU team hanging in at vcu.

Their coach? Jeff Jones.

Now I would've been sick if we had hired Jones -- for a bunch of reasons that have nothing to do with basketball -- but ODU is another perfect example of how a team reflects the attitude of its coach.

Jones has come in and instilled an approach that they're not going to make excuses for lack of depth, size or talent. He's simply doing the best he can with what he's been given.

ODU has maybe 2-3 guys who would even be rotation players for us, but they're probably gonna beat us this season.

18-14 last season (before CBI garbage wins) and I'd say we're on pace for maybe 14-18 this season, if that. With essentially the exact same staff/players.

I'm not down about the fact that Oklahoma is outclassing them (they've a very good team), but I wish they showed a little more backbone. Shooting hardly went up from the 30% at halftime.

A lot of this has to do with coaching.

"We don't have the talent" is the perennial excuse of the fanbase who doesn't want to admit their coach is not doing his job.

A sign of a poorly coached team? One of your senior leaders goes for a pointless circus layup on a fastbreak when all he had to do was go up and calmly put it into the net.

Another one? Your opponent is shooting 0-9 from 3 and your coach insists of playing man-to-man even though we have no prayer of stopping them from getting into the paint.
