I'm not even expecting much until year 4 when the recruiting classes balance out. I think it may be one step forward, one step back again next year without Marquis and Jalen. Unless Goanar and Jayvon really are big day 1 contributors.

How soon we forget. Marquis has been transformed into a total player by DP. Get to the rim, rebound, defend and limit the jumper to mid-range. Jalen has calmed his game defensively, rebounds and facilitates the high post offense. This coach will advance this program nicely as he starts to attract even better A10 talent. So much better to watch and he knows exactly what he wants.

I'm as hopeful as the next guy--the Mercer game was as well as we've played in a long while. However, before we get too carried away, we should temper our expectations a bit. Just remember, it was only a couple of weeks ago, there were people on these boards questioning the wisdom of Paulsen's extension and complaining about being behind a Div 3 team by 10 at the half, etc.

And now the vibe is very much heading in the other direction. We've seen how good the team can play. Let's hope that continues, but the development of these guys isn't going to be linear. Remember, before the season started, Coach said,

"We’ll have some games this year, I am pretty confident we look awesome,” Paulsen said. “And within three or four days, we can come back and look like we never practiced before.”

So patience, patience, patience!

I just want Paulsen to make it hard to win in Fairfax again. After that, then we can start thinking about winning some of these harder games on the road.

We are certainly going to get tested in the A-10 pretty much right away with vcu and UMass at home and then Bonnies and St. Joes on the road. All four of those games are going to be tough.
