"Mercer was picked to finish 4th out of 10 teams in the 2016-17 Southern Conference preseason poll. A perennial mid-major power, the Bears have made a postseason appearance in each of the past five seasons, highlighted by an upset of third-seeded Duke (78-71) during the 2014 NCAA Tournament. This season the Bears are 4-3, with Div. I victories over Georgia Southern (80-67), Radford (58-47) and East Carolina (70-66). Junior guard Ria'n Holland ranks fourth in the SoCon in scoring (18.6 ppg) and is shooting 42.3 percent (22-52) from 3-point range. Fellow junior Demetre Rivers chips in 11.0 ppg while junior guard Jordan Strawberry averages 7.6 points and dishes out a team-high 4.0 assists/contest (t-8th in the SoCon)."

"Defense Looks to Return to Stifling ways
Mercer's defense has been suffocating this season and that has been problematic for opponents. The Bears, ranked 47th in the nation in field goal percentage defense entering this week's games (38.4 percent) have not allowed four out of six opponents to shoot 40 percent or better against Mercer this season.

Not Just a Mercer Thing, It's a SoCon Thing
Mercer's scoring defense is currently ranked 59th nationally as opponents are averaging just 64.6 points per game on the Bears entering this week's contests but that does not seem to be limited just to the Bears. In fact, stellar scoring defenses are prevalent around the Southern Conference as, while Mercer is ranked 59th nationally, the Bears are second in the league. Both Mercer and UNCG (59.1) are limiting opponents to under 65 points per game this season."

GIVING DAY 2023
I don't expect many students to show up. Finals are coming very fast, so they gotta study.
LOL. During my undergrad days, we all got blasted at massive pregames at the Student Apartments, regardless of time of year. Studying wasn't stopping us from a 4-5 hour shit show on game days.

"Daniel Tate wants Mercer Athletics to be one of the “trendsetters” when it comes to live streaming sports content.

It’s why Mercer recently partnered with Facebook to live stream Tuesday’s men’s basketball game against Davidson at Hawkins Arena, making it the first individual school to broadcast a Division I college athletics event exclusively via Facebook Live.

'We know this is the future,' said Tate, Mercer’s associate athletic director for external relations.

The game broadcast through the “all-in-one engagement platform,” as Mercer recently described Facebook, will be live streamed on the Mercer Athletics Facebook page and also shared on the pages for the Southern Conference, Atlantic 10 and Sports on Facebook, which have four million combined “Likes.” On the platform, fans will be able to comment in real-time as they try to win free Bears gear and other prizes during the broadcast.

Earlier this fall, the Atlantic 10 Conference also joined forces with Facebook Live to stream upwards of 15 regular season games this season. According to Bernadette McGlade, A-10 Commissioner, it was important for the conference to 'keep pace with the latest technology' as it searches for new ways to engage fans."
