GIVING DAY 2023
A team of mostly new players is struggling early to play team ball. Welcome to the new normal.

Tony will figure it out by January.
I’d buy this more if every other team in the country wasn’t dealing with pretty much the same thing. It’s the current climate of MBB, either we learn how to make it work or the program suffers.

We had extra practices this summer for the ill fated Bahamas trip and somehow even with extra time with the team the staff doesn’t seem to know how to use some of these guys.

That’s a question that Rohland should raise on December 11th.

I will say judging from the minutes today the rotation definitely shortened as the game went on. You can see that it was a 7 man rotation for the most part. That’s good but I still have questions. Also liked we went to Jq at point for longer stretches. At this point he might even get above KD on the depth chart. Is what it is.

What I don’t understand is how Newton gets 38 mins and Anderson gets 11. And even when we needed to get Newton out, we went two bigs instead. Emejuru had a solid game whereas Haynes did not.

It’s not like a guy like Anderson didn’t play well in his previous program. Kid didn’t come to mason for his 5th year to play 10 mins a game.

Poor coaching, sloppy play, and losing every 50/50 ball. Giving up a billion offensive boards with two centers in. We deserved to lose.

Tony needs to figure out these rotations fast. I don’t understand the leash he gives some of these guys compared to others. Feels very inconsistent.

I’ve seen enough of O’Connor and KD at PF to say neither one is and in the case of KD there is no point right now to try to convert him into one and in the case of O’Connor I think it’s hurting what he can be good at.

I think it’s more our gamble at converting KD to point guard hasn’t gone well. And Anderson so far can’t get off the bench. Those are two major transfers who were meant to replace two really important spots that transferred out and they are not living up to their billing so far.

Nothing to lose at this point so....

1. Split 20/20 between Begg and Quigley and see if either earns the role. Let them gain experience.
2. Billups and O'Connor
3. Maddox 35 min +
4. Newton and Anderson 20/20. I'd like to see Anderson get more of a chance. Nothing to lose.
5. Emejuru and Haynes 25/15.

Austin Ball could be a factor at some point although confidence is not high he'll ever see minutes this season.

No one else plays unless it's a blowout win or loss.

2nd game in a row, this is on the coaches.

3 attempts at drawing up a game winning shot, can’t convert.

4 attempts if you count the central Michigan game.
Respectfully disagree. Brayden had about as good a look as you can get 3 feet from the bucket at the end of the second overtime. Not sure why he didn’t either shoot or throw a pump fake and see if he could draw a foul, but it was a monumental brain fart to basically toss Woody a live grenade at the FT line and expect him to do something with it.

1. I can tell that team has played 4 games in 8 days .. it shows

2. lol there’s no reason why Zach Anderson or Kd hardly played today.
KD sucks and his attitude is worse. Sat there pouting like a bitch with his hoodie up, zero engagement or cheering when one of his teammates made a good play. Not a team player and not nearly good enough to be worth the headaches — especially after all that drama with the other douche last year.

Ugh...sorry to hear about his attitude on the bench.

Was his bone sticking out of his ankle?
Looks like we've got another one.

I’d say one of the most depressing and telling stats today is we lost a double OT game in which 5 players scored 75 of their 78 points. Instead of running them off the court with our perceived depth, we looked like a youth team in which every kid has to play two quarters.

There is no chemistry, reasoning or logic to our carousel of substitutions, and it turned our would-be advantage into our Achilles heel.

Yeah. Two months should be more than enough time to figure out who's going to contribute and how.

I've seen enough of the KD experiment. He's a TO machine with a bad attitude, and doesn't bring enough in other areas to keep giving him major minutes.

While we do not have a capable PG, our TO problems have a lot to do with most of the players struggling to simply pass and catch the ball. It's a team of klutzes. We have only one player who is a scoring threat.

The cupboard is bare and we are in for a long season I'm afraid.

He’s infinitely more talented than than the other PGs on the roster, in addition to BOC who Tony insists on playing out of position. (I love BOC as a 2)

Tony knew exactly what KD was when he recruited him. He also knew the 1000 point SEC scorer hadn’t played PG at the college level but needed to in order to have a meaningful pro career. If Tony can’t get him on track, it’s 100% on him.
Talented schmalented. He’s a head case, always has been.
