We can all say what we want, but if Hewitt was here with the guys he recruited we would be in a pretty good situation right now!

No. We wouldn't. And what's worse, is we might have been on the way to sanctions from the NCAA.

The eye test says Houston played like a team: very little hesitation, everyone knew where each other were on the floor at all times, a highly sophisticated gameplan designed to attack our weaknesses executed to perfection. Mason looked like a group of guys playing pickup ball for the first time together.

Bottom Line, we just don't have the talent to compete. Paulen cant recruit, nice guy but he doesn't have a eye for talent.

We are a super young team and aren't exactly flush with blue chippers. I know tonight was ugly, but it's all part of the process. Stay the course.

It didn't help that Houston seriously nullified Jenkins and took him out of the game. Then when our guards couldn't keep Houston out of the lane, it was drive and kick all night for wide open 3s because our players sagged on help defense.

I am hoping that as Kier and Boyd mature and we get Wilson and Mar in and playing the need to sag into the paint to prevent easy lay ups becomes a thing of the past.

Get used to this, it's called good scouting. When we play bigger teams like that Jenkins will be in foul trouble and a non-factor.

See http://www.coogfans.com/t/live-stream-gulf-coast-showcase-houston-vs-george-mason/4573/19:

"CKS post game
- Good win
- hard to get in rhythm with only 1 game
- moved ball well tonight
- impressed by Galen and his passing the most tonight.
- team needs a ball moving PG, tons of players that can score, but Galen most important
- very unselfish tonight as a team
- D held their best player (Jenkins) to 2 points. Went at him on Defense to try and get him in foul trouble.
- get after it tomorrow night against South Dakota."

I dont think so Scythe. Maybe by the last quarter of this year we see some growth. For now, these new guys, except for Boyd, are not physically mature yet to be playing here.

We weren't beating Houston anyway - though it is scary how bad we looked in defeat. I'm still annoyed about MSM - a team GMU should have beaten. That was on the coaching. Go to a zone - make them actually have to think about what they are doing and adjust. Shot after shot in the paint and no change to the game plan?

So far we definitely aren't better on offense w/o Shevon. How many TO's were there yesterday?

When was the last time the team took a beating like this? I don't think even under Hewitt we had this margin of whooping.

Here's the one thing I'll say about recruiting that I'll be interested to see. So it appears that the system that Paulsen wants to play will require some skilled big men. Usually, the place to go for those type of guys is overseas. Maybe we don't bring in a bunch of transfers, but I wouldn't mind seeing some Europeans next year....As bad as that was I still believe Dave is a good coach and has a solid plan. We just have to trust the proc....Eh, never mind don't want to use that wording.

We do have one thing going for us, though. Houston has a really good coach, unfortunately, they'll be living under NCAA sanctions in 3 years. I can guarantee that doesn't happen.

Damn that must have been a crazy game to watch

There were several "crazy" games to watch during the Paul Westhead era including: Louisville 132 - Mason 87 (margin of defeat - 45 pts.) on 1/4/94

Being down 32-4 in the CAAT in 2012 was far worse. Getting smashed by a non-rival on a neutral court in November doesn't compare to the post-season tournament with a "win or go home" on the line. Sure, we came back in the second half, but we dug such a hole it didn't matter. We can look at yesterday and say to ourselves we will learn from our mistakes and be better for it. After vcu there was nothing to build off and the season was over. Little "silver lining" there.

Down 32-4 was hurtful but Hewitt atleast made a half time adjustment and made AC run point. I think we cut the lead to single digits in the second half but ran out of gas.
