Good test of the 3-0 record for GMU. If they lose, is it close or are they run out off the court?

And if they lose close is it because UMD slept through the game and turned it on just enough to win (thinking Louisville from a few year ago here) or did Mason take their best shot and hang with them?

Related to that: If I recall correctly, we haven't been behind in a game yet under CKE (except for the first basket of the first game). We have played awesome in the lead: we haven't lost focus and haven't taken our foot of the gas pedal. It will be interesting to see how the team handles being behind during a game, if that situation ever arises.

Remember how under DP, no lead was ever large enough that we couldn't lose it?

Bus trip sounds great, I'd take that if I weren't working the game. Would love to meet and chat with Mason fans.

I did grow up a Maryland fan. Dad (UMD, class of 1960) took me to Cole Field House in the 1970's and we saw McMillen, Elmore, Lucas etc. Over the years I continued to root for Maryland. Didn't go to school there, Elon (NC) instead. I saw perhaps the greatest era in ACC hoops from '81 thru '84. We'd hop in a car and drive to Chapel Hill and see Jordan, Worthy, Raleigh to see NCSU and Lowe, Wittenburg and Duke under Coach K was starting out. We knew folks with tickets, would buy outside or in some cases, sneak in. Went to the ACC tourney the year Lefty won his only ACC title, you get the idea.

I shot Maryland basketball in 2011-12 and 2012-13 for Inside MD Sports. I couldn't get to CP as often as I wanted from Northern VA, that's how I latched on to George Mason. Back in 2013 I just e-mailed someone in the Athletic Dept and was hooked up. Would give pics to GMU Hoops and just kept going under Hewitt, Paulsen and now Kim English.

Dad and I would always talk Terps though. The last conversation my son and I had with him before he died March 30 was Maryland's NCAA 1st round win over UConn and later their loss to Alabama.

Wednesday night I'm rooting hard for Mason while shooting but I will be wearing my Dad's Terrapin Club pin while doing so.

That is exactly what I was thinking about. It is good to see that every possession, no matter what the score is, is just as important as the next.

“There is no such thing as garbage time.”

You know what also was annoying about DP? He would foul all the way to the end of the game even when the team was down by multiple possessions and not scoring, this prolonging the pain of having to watch the team.

Sounds like a complaint from someone who lost $$ when Mason didn't cover the spread due to other team making those fts!

Nice memories Bill. I remember Cole Field House too. As much as I disliked Maryland for that 2001 game, I spent a lot of time in College Park since I had two cousins that lived on campus. I would go see them on some weekends, ending up meeting two different ex-girlfriends there and got to partake in some of the Route 1 stupidities when Maryland had a big game, like beating a ranked Duke. I would be envious and relieved at the same time that Mason students didn't climb up light poles, climb on top of the one story shops lining the roads, climb on top of cars that couldn't move because of all the kids that flowed into the street, girls flashing the crowd.. all to just get dispersed by the sounds of the swat team clanging their batons on their shields as they marched towards the crowd. I used to also see Steve Blake FLYING around on campus in Gary Williams' S600.

If we beat Maryland and especially if we win by a comfortable margin, the Kim English coaching buzz throughout the country will be rampant.

A 4-0 start, winning by an average of 20+ points and a win over a Top 25 team and seemingly turning around a program that was a dumpster fire for a decade?

Yes please. it’s a problem I’d rather have than anything we’ve seen the past decade. One should never fear success.

Yes, but.
Still, even if he does leave, maybe he makes Mason much more attractive for potential future coaching hires. Thus, a continuation of success.
