Game 34: Atlantic 10 Tournament FINAL - #2 GMU (26-7) vs #1 vcu (27-6) on Sunday, March 16, at 1:00 PM.

Walk-On
The A10 showcased their very best on CBS for the whole country. Not CBS7 via vpn or some random channel with a fuzzy feed, but CBS.
Would the A10 get more respect instantly if it wasn’t stretched across six networks and hard to track when games might be and where to find them? Television too lazy to tell stories; they only use talking heads to scream brand names at each other

Unfortunately I don't think that would get "more respect" for the league. What would get more respect for the league is the conference helping out with strategic scheduling alliances, making scheduling adjustments during conference play etc.

PAC-A10 Challenge! Get it done

And two potential selling points:

1) the east coast bias. Get your west coast teams in front of east coast eyes.

2) we can do it in February instead of early OOC and make the scheduling dynamic so tops teams don’t get stuck playing a poor team based on last season’s results. Announce the pairs in early February based on current season form.

Assume youre joking since the PAC12 is gone. But a WCC-A10 tournament would be great.

oh dang, I hadnt heard that. Ok, then yes thatd be a nice group of teams to play against.

The trick is in convincing SDState and Gonzaga that it’s a good idea because I have a feeling both will say no. And so might Washington State and Oregon State (out of hubris about their former status).

But that’s what a good commissioner is for: sell the benefits of mutual scheduling and the strength of the A10.

A10 teams go west twice, they come east once, and we throw in some US History while we're at it. 3 year deal.

I think a Pac12/A10 challenge isn't realistic until we get back to having 3 to 5 teams in the tournament consistently.

Colorado St, Gonzaga, Utah St, SDSU are all NCAAT teams last year and this year - we only have vcu this year and Duquesne/Dayton last year.

Boise State was one of the consensus next teams out, and they made it last year, as did Washington St.

So right now they really have ~5.5 teams that are regularly and consistently making NCAAT, and we have 1.5.

This falls on us, SJU, SLU and Loyola Chicago to get us on par with the top end of their conference, while vcu and Dayton maintain their success.

Think he’s got a point. Just watched espn2 bit on NIT and the talking heads are saying an all ACC final…really…don’t think so.

Smells of the old nobody got fired for hiring IBM mantra of the 80’s-early 2000’s

I gotta say, this is unusual for me, but with a couple days' distance I'm not feeling any better. If anything, it's worse. I'm bitterly disappointed about the end of this season. Not at coach or the players, and not just an amplification of my hatred of vcu, but just a general sadness and disappointment. Anyone else?
I’m maybe too much of an optimist, but after a great weekend and watching an excellent championship game I’m still ok. Yes, we aren’t dancing. Yes I hate vcu. But we absolutely gave it our all and belong.

I will be more disappointed if it takes forever for us to get back. Appearing in the semis should be an achievable goal more often than not, and beyond that as well. I see this as the start of something great.

The year is also not over. I’m hopeful to see a few more wins.

That's usually my attitude, but right now I'm feeling more like "This was our chance, and it's gone." I hate the new landscape of college ball, never really building something. It just gives me the sense that this team was special and we ALMOST made it to the promised land, but now it's over. I'm usually an optimist, so hopefully I'll get there again soon

I understand but i am hoping that on a senior led team - the first 8 players - realize that their college careers end with the next loss. None are true NBA level prospects, so if they continue to play it will likely to be in a foreign country, away from a fan base, friends and family that loves them. I hope they understand that these basketball days are numbered and that that is enough of a motivation. If not, so be it.

Georgia Tech just got destroyed by Jacksonville State in the first game so there goes that idea.

I suppose Stanford and SMU could meet in the finals, but that’s barely ACC and Stanford might have to go play in San Francisco’s gym to make the final four and you know SFU will want to put the hurt on Stanford.
