I was told last year that Patriot Vision is at the mercy of the Patriot Center wiring. Until the Patriot Center upgrades to HD cables (and some other tech stuff I didn't understand), the feed will remain as its been for the past few years. No timetable on when the arena will get those upgrades, unfortunately.

Thats total bullshit. Al Qaeda aires shit in HD and we can't? Osama bin Laden was captured while watching online porn in HD and we can't watch our team play online in HD where Innovation is Tradition?? They're cloning people at the Prince William Campus but can't air games in HD? Total BS to the person who told you that.

The feed for the video comes off of the same camera that they use to record the standard "game tape" that the basketball staff then uses. It's piped across campus to an office where it's encoded and Neulion taps in to pick up the stream. Sometimes Neulion (or whoever it is) forgets to connect to the stream or is late.

The improvement is needed in the equipment that would allow one or two HD cameras with a simple mixing board. Of course that means a few bodies ($$) to do those jobs during games as well.

The main gripe I have is that if they offered the current quality stream for free, I think most of us would be sufficiently happy. It's the fact that we're forced to pay for this bad video that chaps us all. Not to mention that the AD doesn't seem to be interested in investing to make it better.

Move the camera from wgmu (that shows some chick and her clevage everyday), to the patriot center camera stage. That camera is fine for a free feed. And you can keep the chick and her clevage for halftime entertainment.;)

Wireless...we have the ability these days....

My assumption, then, is Allen will be out, and Arledge may play spot minutes depending on how he feels.

Rotation should be:
Edwards / Moore
Holloway / Gray
Wright / Okoloji
Gujanicic / Jenkins / Okoloji
Williams / Jenkins (possible, Arledge)

Should be another ~35-minute outing for Gujanicic and J2. Jenkins may play quite a bit if there is foul trouble for either of those two. I still think we win a close one.

Allen and Arledge are OUT, per the game notes.

Allen has a bruised MCL. Arledge has a bruised back.

The problem with getting a better stream is that HD cabling costs money (I think it runs $5/foot, maybe more), and who's going to pay for it? They probably need hundreds of feet, if not thousands.

I think the AD would b a lot better off making the stream free, and reaping the PR benefits of getting many more eyeballs watching the stream. It's such a simple change, and at our level, exposure is everything. I can't believe they make any money off it anyway.

Wow - gut-check game w/ those 3 key players out. If Moore is going to get extended playing time, it's prob good for him mentally for it to be at home....

I think Holloway goes off and the good guys eek out a close one.

It's a very good thing Moore got to play as much as he did on Tuesday. We're going to need him.

Without BA on the floor I see the potential for some serious scoring droughts if Sherrod doesn't step up. Hopefully we can pull this out.

I also see an opportunity for others to step up. I would hope to see more Moore - he looked great in the last game. We could struggle or we could be pleasantly surprised.

I wired my house with catv wiring. Cost about $40 for 500 feet. It handles HD for several tv's in the house and my fios runs over it at the same time at 25 mbps (can handle over 1 gbps though). As stated earlier, wireless is also viable. It's not such an expensive upgrade.

I'm not talking about cable for transmitting a IP signal. I'm talking about the cable used between the cameras and the production room/truck.

Raw, unprocessed, uncompressed video coming off a TV camera usually uses triaxial cable, I believe. A quick Google search puts it around $2/foot. And you need a separate line for each camera.

BA only played 12 minutes last game and the offense looked capable. I realize Northern Iowa is a tougher opponent though. I do feel that N. Iowa shouldn't be able to kill us with 3's this year, even w/o BA. Sonnen's gone and we have plenty of deep threats, especially with Gray back in the mix. It might come down to continued good rebounding and staying out of the kind of foul trouble Mason got into last year against Northern Iowa.

I get that things can get expensive if you are running a prime time espn-like video production. I'm just saying that if you want a video production like we saw at Lamar, it is really just the cost of a good internet connection. Maybe $300/month? A few hundred users would be able to watch at standard definition. That sounds like it would be a significant enough upgrade worth pursuing.

You might even be able to get a slower internet connection out of the patriot center for like $50/month and upload the video to a webhosting service that can handle the bandwidth for HD video to thousands of users. Not sure the cost of that, but I can't imagine it would cost more than a few hundred a month.

This is my main concern. We struggled against UNI with foul trouble last year, and that was under the old rules. If J2 and Marko get into foul trouble, we're looking at an offensively-challenged frontline of Jenkins and Okaloji for extended stretches.

We also can't afford to have Sherrod commit some of the careless fouls he did against Lamar. This will be a hell of a test without three starters, but it will also be a great opportunity for Holloway and Gray to show they are capable of rising to the occasion — especially since they are the heir apparent to Allen and Wright next year.

I think we may play more zone tomorrow to try and stay out of foul trouble. As others have pointed out, we aren't a great rebounding team and give up open looks anyway, so we might as well play zone and cut down on the fouls.
