Richmond is a much nicer place overall than it was even 10 years ago.

As with any city, it has areas where I wouldn't go without Kevlar and a large-caliber handgun, but it's actually drawing a lot of young professionals who prefer the urban lifestyle and an upscale loft condo to a suburban McMansion.

When my kids are out on their own, I'm pretty sure my wife and I are moving down into Shockoe Bottom. A bunch of great restaurants all within walking distance, and as a bonus, I won't have to cut any more f*cking grass.

vcu has also done a remarkable job buying up blighted properties, razing them and putting up dorms and new academic buildings.

I still hate them of course, but after 22 years in the suburbs, the city is growing on me.

Glen Allen is a great place. ;)

Tons of breweries are popping up in Richmond, its becoming the Denver of the East Coast. It already has the homeless and hippsters, they are just adding craft beer.

Stone Brewery is open.... go grab me a Growler!

I will say that the place has loads of history, which I like, and the govt. services down there tend to be a lot better, because the Guvnahhh always takes care of his own back yard. After experiencing everything from our crappy DMVs to our boarded up rest areas, NoVA really gets the shaft for an area that pays half the Commonwealth's bills.

WTH are you guys talking about. We are playing vcu the basketball team tomorrow and this tread has turned into a Richmond is beautiful chat. Get back on track now, F vcu!

Worry not my friend, we still hate the Rams and their very special 'classy' fan base. Ahem.
Just pointing out that certain areas are nice because the center of govt. feathers its own bed. I should have figured out how to be a tick on that dog's a$$ years ago.

Ugh, these assholes are coming in tomorrow? They should have to submit to blood tests before they get in Patriot Center. Disease-ridden cocksuckers. God, just their presence in Fairfax once a year probably devalues my home by 50-100 K. So many of them were raised by single parents and are ridiculously overweight. We wouldn't even need Obamacare if not for their fat asses driving up health costs for all of us. And their women? So slutty and dirty. Literally anyone from our area who goes down there with two twenties can purchase a blumpkin from a dance team girl down there. Anyone read the Old Testament? God used to wipe people out left and right--why he hasn't flooded the James and started over in Richmond is beyond me. Maybe he's still deciding between flood and fire. I suppose in a way their presence is needed to counterbalance UR. Reminds me of Iran and Iraq, and how Reagan supported both in the 80's in hopes they would just wipe each other out. Maybe we should do the same. I just can't stand the mix of weird, fat, highly gay, ghetto weirdos down there. Serious question, would you rather go to a local bar and roll on the bathroom floor for an hour, or go back to the Richmond Coliseum? I'm not sure. I hate them so much.

It is OK to live there but you must trek up Rt 95 about 18 times per year and spend about 3 hours in the EBA!
