This is why. Lack of awareness and lack of effort.
Sheesh, just watched the highlight of this play. It wasn’t lack of effort, just complete lack of awareness on Hall’s part. Really can’t figure out why he thought he needed to sag into the paint to provide help defense (I guess that’s what he thought he was doing?), and leave a shooter wide open for a game winning three.

Hall isn’t a bad on the ball defender, but has a lot of room to grow in playing good team defense.

Hall is a sophmore. He has many nuances and situational cleverness to learn. For example, give up the 2 to tie, just dont allow a 3 to lose. And the fouling at umass im sure hes learned from. He should a polished player and ready to sell to the SEC by next year. Smh.

Sure, this was the disheartening moment where Fordham takes the lead for the win. It is not the sole reason for the loss. Up 14 midway through the second half. Hell, scoring only two points in the opening 6½ minutes. Mason should have slaughtered the Rams... but, no.

The sec? What? Haha! If he bolts for a football school, I’ll just say good riddance and what a stupid choice. If he leaves for an acc, big east or big 12 program then I’ll say that sucks but good for him. If he goes to a big 10 school I’ll say HA, enjoy choking in the first round.

This.

During the inbound for Fordham's last shot, for some reason, Hall attempted to double-team a Fordham player in the paint, losing Rose in the process. Why? Had Hall stuck with Rose then he would have never received the inbound pass. Hall is physically talented, but he needs to learn discipline—defend your ASSIGNED player.

I'll be more pissed if he doesn't learn from the mistake and it happens again.

Fordham was 9/12 from 3 in the 2nd half, every shot was wide open. Mason failed to adj and chase players off the 3. If those 9 3s were 2s instead, it would have been a comfortable win.

Watch it again. Billups was on Rose. Hall was on Rivera. Rivera screens Billups and Billups decided to switch off Rose and stay with Rivera. It doesn't seem like Hall knew of the switch or heard the call, because he also attempted to stay on Rivera and by the time he realized Billups had switched, it was too late for him to get to Rose in time. Hard to know who was at fault there without knowing what Tony wanted regarding switching.

Thanks for mentioning this. It was hard to hear in Rose Hill Gym last night even with so few people. Story for another day.

But regardless, I did hear in the huddle during the last timeout "under 10 seconds don't switch". I didn't hear anything beyond that or specifics. Sooo did someone mess up? Quite possibly.

Mason Basketball summed up:

If the game is at home, Mason probably wins

If the game is on the road, Mason probably loses

We do a lot better at home as opposed to on the road

Who else was in the paint with him that’s really the question you should be asking

Wow sounds like he had a very rough game right after he dropped the rebound to seal it too
Surely more than one person contributed to this loss but I just can't believe how Billups didn't close it out. the rebound came right to him, next thing he falls to the floor. He had his guy boxed out. game over. Just inexcusable. Then guy climbs all over him and gets a jump ball call. What! Where is the foul? Oh and yes the refs were horrible. Good teams just don't let this s... happen. But in defense of Billups, there were many other head scratching plays. Quite frankly the only thing you can do is take this as another learning experience.

Agreed, going down was odd, but no foul call was even worse.
