A couple of comments-

the 2nd warning on URI's bench was not on Hurley, it was on the assistant. Hurley had been warned already and if it was on him, that would have resulted in a T.

Last play with Grayer, he was supposed to get the ball back after throwing it to half court. However, this is where our basketball IQ (or lack there of), came into play. URI played it brilliantly by not picking up full court. I wonder if they were planning on fouling around midcourt. None of our guys realized they should come back and get the ball in bounds.

URI typically shoots in the low 60s from the free throw line. For all our mistakes and untimely rebounding, if URI shoots they way they normally do from the line, we win.

Students....decent turnout. Maybe my expectations were too high. Coming off of Homecoming where they packed the place and this being a Saturday afternoon game with a TON on the line, I thought both ends would be filled. I'm at a loss as to what to do. Next Wed I don't expect much, but I hope they prove me wrong

Thanks for the clarification. There's no doubt Coach Paulsen wanted Grayer to shoot the 3-pointer for the tie. But, why not position him up the court and have Ian Boyd make the inbound pass?

I've given the students props all season for their support, but I've been disappointed in their attendance the last 2 games.

The fact that we actually implemented adjustments of after the half and the team executing was great.

I am ok with this loss. I did like what I say from Boyd - he was being strong and he has progressed on offense. Plus he has a killer beard.

Other teams - even some Coach L teams would have wilted.

You have a talking couch?!?! So cool!;)

Well we definitely know he wasn't quoting couchcoach lol.

Anyway, tough game to lose but you can't dig yourself that much of a hole. In the first half they let URI dictate the game, and really couldn't get much going on either end.

In the second you can tell they adjusted, got a few stops and some easier baskets to make the game close. It came down to a few bounces which is tough but you can't dig yourself a hole and leave it to that.

Regardless, coach hinted that it seemed like this is the second game where the team thought it was a big game and didn't prepare in the same manner as any other game. That is part of maturity. I know against vcu it was similar. Hopefully as they continue to grow, that will change.

By the way, we are in trouble without Marquise and Jalen next year.
Next year might be a little tough without them. But I see a lot of Moore in Boyd, and Mar seems a lot like Jenkins. And our other guys will be experienced.

Predicting middle of the pack next year and top 3 the following season.

The Patriot Center was really, really loud during parts of the 18 point comeback, which was great to see/hear.

Stan Robinson went to Paul VI Catholic High School and was a big time player there. He committed to Indiana then transferred to Rhode Island. He's always been a big time player. Should've keyed on him more. Yeah he didn't start the game but he easily could be a starter for Rhode Island.

Rhode Island went into a 2-3 zone in the 2nd half but Jaire Grayer making a 3 and our penetration got them out of it.

Some perspective on free throw shooting:
Kenpom has URI for the season as 323 nationally at ~65%; yesterday they shot 71%
Mason is 46th nationally at ~75%; yesterday we shot 86%

GIVING DAY 2023
So we're on a run, team crowd is hyped, so it only makes sense to...sit quietly and be entertained by the band. Smh.

I hate vcu with a passion, but this is where their whole arena would be singing that war song during the entire timeout.

Agree sometimes the band needs to stop playing...I know it is sacrilege to say it.

Unless I missed it living on a prayer didn't make an appearance despite being down 18. Odd.

Using the band as a time out game was cool though.

All right... We need the contact information for representatives from the Green Machine, the cheerleaders, the dance team, and the Patriot Platoon. We need to get these groups together to discuss coordination between and among all of them and the fans. Get them all in one room and talk about what they should do to improve the game day experience.

Who has the contact info? List 'em here:

The "fans" in front of me complained because my friend and I were "too loud" and it "hurt her ears". NOT ONE word of profanity. Just cheering for the team and yelling at Hurley. Many of our season ticket fan base is lame, too old, and too set in their ways. Want a "quiet" experience? Go to the opera. Had to listen to him tell us that because they paid more for their seats that we should listen to him and stop yelling. LOVE the young guys several rows back. LOUD and enthusiastic.
