I enjoyed the win however I didn't enjoy our game strategy of "get up by a bunch and hang on for dear life."

Then again isn't that Hewitt's strategy every game?

He just wants to keep us interested and nervous...and give us fans heart attacks..

And I agree that Luke is a good guy. Has supported Mason since the day he left.

Proud of the Mason team tonight. They weathered the run Richmond would make and got a few extra stops when they needed to. A little extra effort went a long way in preserving the victory. That includes the save by Marko, the extra rebound by Jenkins and defensive stops etc. They continue to show they have not given up. The three by Holloway was huge.

I want to see this team finish strong and win a one game in the a ten tournament. It'd at least be something in this miserable season.

Glad we finally won at home.
However, I'm pretty sure Brion's had more people then the PC did. Even the band section looked a little light?

And Luke is the man. I saw him at a party this summer. His new ring was pretty ridiculous. He had nothing but nice things to say about Mason.

Missed attending the game - youth playoffs - but caught it on DVR.

Good win. I usually panic when we play a zone D.

Offensive flow was better and a good night for finding the gaps in the zone and making the proper cuts in the seams. The extra week of practice (no Sat.game) showed up tonight.

Probably doesn't mean much, but with our recent close games and quality wins (wow first time that is actually plural!) we could play spoiler for some deserving team in Brooklyn.

First let me confess that I don't pay as close attention to the details of the game of late, so if I have totally missed the boat, that is why.

Related to the post I quoted, it looked like we were playing a pretty good zone D in the first half when we took the early lead. We won the first half big. We lost the second half (luckily not by as much as we won the first half) and if I recall correctly we did not play nearly as much zone D. I am trying to remember if we played it at all. It looked like Anthony went off, partially when Moore got tired at the end. It seems that more zone D would have helped with that too.

Did I miss something?

Tom,

I'm guessing that Bob McKillop had opportunities to leave Davidson for higher-paying coaching positions, just as Joe Paterno had similar opportunities to leave Penn State.

Joe Pa should have been coaching at a Pen-al Colony. Pun intended.

Attendance = 4,011
Does G Mas just use that number regardless of the amount of people in the place?
How many, for anyone that was actually there, did there actually appear to be at PC tonight? 3K?

My cousin is a big hoops fan that lives in Maryland and was astounded by how empty the PC was as he watched the last couple minutes of the game. I told him that I'm not sure how GMU ever has good attendance unless it attains vcu-like success. Nobody paid attention in 'o5-'06 until the Sweet 16.

We did a good job of continuing to run our offense inspite of adversity, and of handling their press, and of taking care of the ball during the last 2-3 minutes. If we'd committed two more turnovers at the very end, it might have been the same old story. And that Holloway three was a back-breaker.

So if we don't make the NIT next season with four freshmen and two sophomores in the rotation, does Hewitt still get his fifth season?

Sadly, I think the answer is yes. I think he's given himself a built-in excuse by going so young ... can just see it now, all the posts about waiting til all the young guys mature, then we're gonna be NCAA bound.

I just want to point out that the team we beat tonight had an RPI of 48 and started 3 sophomores and 2 juniors with 2 freshmen and 1 sophomore coming off the bench. They were 8-4 in the A-10 and 18-9 overall.

Youth is no excuse.

Youth is no excuse.

But, if next year's team is losing a lot then youth will become an excuse. I wonder if Hewitt will shy away from "we didn't make enough plays" to "we're a young team and made mistakes". Experienced or inexperienced, all of Hewitt's teams seem to play the same way.
