Gotta pray the refs don’t let vcu play prison rules like they usually do at home. I can see BOC and KD getting it stolen off them a lot of the refs let vcu get handsy.

Nothing personal..but defensive minded teams including Mason encourage physical play from each player on the court...any of whom could be called for a foul on the same play...the philosophy is normalize to refs to the physical nature and only get them to call one when it's blatant...it's as old as college basketball..

Frankly, go watch any Big East game from the late '80s to the '00s i.e. before all the realignment began. All they did was foul, BUT, as you said New Patriot, it was normalized throughout the whole league so only the most blatant fouls would be called.

I think both points are valid here.
1) many of us have complained for years playing against vcu in richmond is playing 5 on 8. Just ask Cam Long whether he was fouled when he dunked on Larry Sanders. Its over the top usually when we play them.
2) home teams especially power 5 teams when playing buy games usually get away with alot.

At the end of the day, Mason wont win or lose because of refs but if they dont call as much as they should, its going to be a lot harder. You know that Haynes is going to see doubles and have guys try to make him dribble and deflect the ball away. Thats only one example too.

This is actually a rare case where the refs being lenient isn't a bad thing in my opinion. We are very physical ourselves. Our defense has generally done better this season when the refs have let us play.

I go back to the 70's..the '76 Undefeated Indiana team with Scott May, Ken Benson, Abernathy and Quinn Buckner played brutally physical man to man defense..

Oh I know it's not personal. I'm just saying, the amount of times vcu has gotten away with murder while other teams get flagged for tiki-taka shit is quite a lot. If the refs wanna let both teams play, then have at it. I vastly prefer that to the UMass game earlier this year that was nearly unwatchable with every foul being called.
