GIVING DAY 2023
Reading the Richmond boards they appear to be in the same position with Mooney that we were with Hewitt

Except Mooney still has 5 years left on his contract at more than $1M per.

That deal is like an anvil around the neck of Richmond's program.

We scored 90+ points on a night when we turned the ball over 5 times on our first 7 trips of the game.

Richmond's first 20 points of the game all came in the paint. Points 21 and 22 were free throws. Other than Cline, they didn't shoot well from the outside and yet we never switched defenses.

Did the students forget there was a game tonight?

Yes, I'm focusing on the 3 negatives so that our heads don't get too big between now and Saturday....

Such valuable experience for these young guys to learn how to close out games. Amazing how efficient this team has been at holding leads in the last 5 minutes and not letting other team's runs effect the outcome. During the Hewitt years you could literally see the wheels come off and just know the team would not respond or recover or close out a game. So refreshing to see what this team has accomplished this season.

Of course Richmond boards keep pointing out they lost because of the refs and call Mason a crap program and yet they keep
Bringing up their inability to beat the GooMoos. (What is the story behind that dumb moniker anyways?).

I propose we rename that school GMU-South. When you own something you can rename it, right?

GIVING DAY 2023
So when we kept hearing " Brad wants to win", this is what he wanted, and what we deserve.:chuckle:

Richmond unraveled late in the second half and mason stepped on the throat. Cline worked for his points but never got comfortable other than a little bit in the second half. Buckingham their stud freshman was out of it. Nick sherod looked good, Hewitt recruited him. Richmond never got into a rhythm consistently on offense.

Few energy plays made the difference. An offensive rebound by Grayer to three point play by Jenkins, and a tip by Temara helped Mason late before the wheels for Richmond came off.

In the first half Mason started a bit slow, but calmed down and started playing their game, sharing the ball, good shots, and getting to the line. Newman was a lift in the first half with his energy on both ends.

Really nice to see Mason playing their best ball in February. The road gets tougher, but it's nice to see the games have a lot of meaning.

Richmond is a good team and Mooney seems like a good coach. We have their number, plain and simple.

The refs ABSOLUTELY were on our side for once. But that did NOT cost the ticks the game. Sour grapes

Anybody else notice Temara mug for the camera during the under 8 TV timeout during the 2nd half? Cracked me up. Comes w/ 7:56 left - caught as I watched some of the replay of the game on facebook live.

The stink of Hewitt is still on this program. It's going to take a few seasons for us to regain respect in people's perception.

Oh, man! I haven't seen an opponent melt-down like that since Bruiser Flint and Drexel. Actually, Bruiser's tirades and team collapses were mere Three-Mile Islands. Mooney and the Spiders was like Chernobyl! BOOM!!

The nice thing about the Paulsen era is that I keep telling myself "that's one of the best wins of the Paulsen era" and I'm not wrong.

Others have beaten me to it but the defining thing about Dave's teams, for me, is that they absolutely do not f**k around when they smell blood. For all of the X's and O's stuff I like to talk about, I firmly believe that teams take on the personality of the coach. Dave's teams like to step on the throat and shoot you in the head John Wick style.

- Cline is very very good but was clearly struggling against Jalen. He did a lot of his damage against Temara when Jalen was on the bench. Richmond was sending aggressive doubles to help Cline against Jalen in the first half but Jalen did a good job finding cutters/shooters per usual.

- Karmari's 12 points off the bench were huuuuuuge. Boyd's shot was off so without Karmari we get no meaningful offensive production from the bench whatsoever. Karmari is a crazy gifted scorer who doesn't really have a Mason comp in my time here (since 2005) but he kind of reminds me of Cam Long because he's so smooth and every time he does anything with the ball it just looks right.

- Jaire was 3-7 from the field, with all 7 attempts being threes. He doesn't need to do a whole lot more in this offense since we get so much penetration from Otis/Marquise/Jalen so if his role is to drift open and stick threes I'm good with it.

- Marquise, Otis and Jalen combined for 19 of our 29 made field goals on 19/32 shooting. All but one of those field goals game from inside the arc, because Richmond is shit at defending the paint. We're going to go as far as those three guys can carry us this season.

I'm really trying not to let my expectations outpace reality so I can enjoy the ride. Man is this team fun to follow.

We're gonna hit promoting Saturday's game hard af. I really mad we had a low turn out, but it is a Tuesday night and its Valentine's Day, but still.

You guys focus on getting your fellow alums out, bring your neighbors, friends, mistresses, etc. Pack EBA Saturday, they'll need our energy against URI.

Really nice win with balanced scoring and incredible team rebounding. Loved our composure in the second half when they made it a close game. May man-crush on Marquise grows every day. We knew their game-plan was to limit his dribble penetration, so he adjusted and knocked down several key mid-range jumpers.
