Walk-On
Just got home from game, what a great win. Rollercoaster is a good term for this game. The defense in the second half was high level and the crowd really supported the team. The five Tony had in there for the last 8 minutes did a fantastic jobgetting us back in the game (Billups, haynes, KD, Braden, and woody) there was only one sub during that time for one play, those guys played their hearts out. Love this teams guts and will to win. Can't wait to watch the replay.

Arena matters so much. The crowd today (~5k) and the crowd at HoCo (~7k) were both loud and rowdy... but in a building that holds almost 10k, the optics are always going to feel just a bit weak when you pan out.

As an example, Loyola Chicago's building holds just under 5k, and so it always feels packed, even when attendence is just north of 4k. When GMU pulls in 4k, we all flock to these boards and lament the low energy in EBA.

Crowd size and energy are mutually exclusive elements. Good crowd today AND lots of noise. I thought it was more than 5,200ish, though—felt like more.

The defensive start was definitely poor - but SJU shot 45% from 3PT while being contested. But Team Tony can win in all kinds of ways. They scrap and they adjust and they don't give up. Buckle up for a heart attack every time they lace 'em up the rest of the way.

Many 3s contested, many 3s deep. St. J's guards were HOT in the first half. They cooled off and Patriot Pressure took over. Great come-from-behind victory!

Why can’t we draw 9,000 or so? Is it marketing? Does the campus not know we’re good?
Students man, students. The fans did a good job on coming out on a rainy day, it's the students who aren't showing up consistently. Many open seats in the student section and wasn't filled up to the very top.

Just don't get it. Students who live on campus need to be bombarded with messaging - even text messages to get them to the game. Free pizza maybe works, I dunno.

Would love to know more about our marketing towards students around campus in general.

I was at the game today, and the crowd was solid. The lower bowl was full, and center court was packed up to the rafters, though the corners were empty. Overall, it was a great environment.

My only nitpicky critique is the student section—they tend to sit a lot. However, that might be due to the size of the Green Machine. Without that band, those students might have filled the traditional student section and made it livelier. To be clear, I’m not advocating for getting rid of the band.

The combination of the band and the DJ creates an awesome atmosphere!

I walked past the Chik-fil-A table after the game trying to get a free one by showing my ticket. They said, somewhat apologetically, that the students had to show a voucher to get one. "It's the only way we get them to come to games". Sigh!

They sit because the first rows are "reserved" for dance team and cheer coaches. Kick those leeches out and let the students have the front row seats they deserve.
