We are not Kentucky. Give the man a "win or else" year. If we don't win next year I'll admit that a lot of you were right.
One, in year one of Hewitt's tenure he won 24 games, yes, but with a horrible SOS and he didn't even get a sniff at the NIT.

Two, in year two, we got to 20 wins, but we had to make it all the way to a best of three CBI final to get to those 20 and that was in one of the worst years for the CAA in a long time. I mean James Madison won the CAA last year for godssake!

A good coach who has Sherrod Wright, Bryon Allen, Jalen Jenkins and Patrick Holloway on his team does not lose 20+ games in a season.

Why waste another year? Hewitt has done nothing to have this courtesy extended to him after a year like he has had.

He was a 20 win coach his first two years. We have to give him a bounce back year. We are not Kentucky. We can't axe the guy for one bad year.

Just because "we're not Kentucky" doesn't mean we have to be satisfied with mediocre basketball.

Sadly, that's the trend.

Reminds me of year one of the Hewitt regime, Preseason NIT, losing to FIU and having the VT coach in the stands watching us destroy Monmouth saying, "how is this the same team that played last night." Well, now we know, it's a Hewitt coached team.

Tough loss, but this miserable season has killed our perspective.

Lost to the #10 team in OT with Sherrod putting up 34 points.

As my 6 year old pointed out on the ride home - that was a great game.

Before I get killed. I'm just reflecting the moment, not the season or coaching tenure.

Bless your 6 yr old for bringing things back in perspective!! So many of us live and die on the outcomes of games, cursing the players, the coach, the refs, etc. I hope he (or she) becomes a big Mason fan, but never loses the sense of youthful joy over what is, after all, a game to be enjoyed.

Would you chew up Hewitt's replacement after 3 years?!
I swear if they got rid of Hewitt after this season, I'd have faith that they know how to handle things properly, I'd never have doubts about continuing my home/post season attendance streak, would never consider stopping my donations and I would plan to leave the school a boat load of money in my will.

Sadly, I fear it is more likely that we have a bad to mediocre year next year, you can't have a lame duck in the 5th year, and he gets a 3-5 year extension.

The wild card in this is El Presidente. I don't have a good read on him yet. Maybe he will surprise me.

The problems started in his first year. We are now paying the price of not having a decent pg to run this system. He could of changed things but he didn't. He rode Pearson into the ground. Just one of many problems.

What makes you think we're going to win next year? You expect us to make the NIT? We have a veteran team this year and some other solid complimentary players and we haven't won 10 basketball games yet. Next season, we lose our top two scorers and bring in freshman. So, Hewitt is going to win a bunch of games with four newcomers, in the A10, but can't with a supposed veteran squad this season? Please. I expected to have this type of season (albeit, not as bad) next season, not this year. Dude, wake up....Hewitt is not the answer.

I'm excited as all hell about Jenkins. I think he's got the skills and attitude to be one hell of a basketball player for our program. Unless Moore can develop a consistent mid-range jump shot he should not be our PG in the future.

It is not just one bad year. I ignored the writing on the wall his first year. I used to think last year was OK, but if you look at it overall, you can't honestly say it was a good year. We only won 18 games in the regular season and did not get into a real tournament. Don't get me, wrong the CBI was fun and I thought it would lead to something better this year. But even as Hewitt now says, good results in one game don't translate into future games... We paid for 5 wins last year and still only got 4. Those 18 wins we got in the regular season against bad competition with an SOS of 173. We went 10-8 in a really down year for the CAA and finished in 5th! Last year was a bad year.

I am really high on our players past, current and future. I just doubt Hewitt will ever do much with them. I doubt he gets struck by lightning twice.

It's been the young guys showing us flashes. I don't care if I'm an independent thinker and go against the anti- Hewitt lemmings. I think the bad taste of this year motivates our guys in the offseason to have a bounce back year. If you are just resigned to a 10 win year next year than just pack it in... Don't come crawling when we win next year though...

But we're losing several players and two key seniors....Their opportunity to get the "bad taste in their mouth" is over. I hope the incoming freshman are studs, and can help us win basketball games. I just can't agree with you when you say we'll win next year with a young squad, losing key scoring guards, with the same coaching staff.

Sure, the young guys have shown us flashes...but what happens when they are routinely put in the same position to lose close ball games over and over again by an incompetent coaching staff? And to say I'll come crawling back when we start winning again is bull****. I currently live in CT and drove six hours three times this season to watch the team play, and watch every game that is on TV up in this area.

That presser is an example why we will never be great under Hewitt (unless we end up with 5 studs that ignore his coaching). There are glaring (and repeated) issues with his end of game management. The fact that it does not appear that fundamental basketball is being taught. There is not an instance in that presser where he is looking in the mirror for some of the solution. If he came out and copped to his own mistakes I'd have some compassion for him and might think we have some hope. Until he can see his own issues, we will never get much better.

If he's back next season, I'll be fascinated to see what Hewitt makes of the roster he's built.

Gonna be very difficult to run a dribble-drive offense with exactly one guy on our team who is adept at driving to the basket.

But I'm confident he'll find some way to keep blaming the players for "not making enough plays." It's the one area where he's consistent.
