Goff is covering the US Soccer Federation meetings.

Lol second sentence is wrong, Kier is not a junior.

Not to be lost in the other positives from yesterday, Kier looks like he has got his shooting confidence back. His 3 point shot is still slow as hell, but he made 2/3 and looked more comfortable doing letting it fly.

Also, is the players going into the stands thing our version of rushing the court? Did Larranaga start that tradition? I’ve never seen another team do that after a game, but I know they did it a couple of times under Larranaga when I was a student.

Kier's back to back 3's were huge. We need alot more of that from him. Glad to see to him take those shots again.

Great game plan from the coaching staff also. Smart plan that deflated gw .

His 3 point show reminds me a lot of Maynor, as his shot was slow too. I think teams were laying off Kier because he was 1-27 at one point this season from 3, so yeah, let him shoot. He hit two 3's at Richmond as well. Hopefully, his confidence is back.

It's the weekend... Relax

I bet a lot of people on this site were at the game, and not looking at their phones the entire time, and waited till they got home before posting their comments. I had 4 friends (and 2 of them have not attended Mason at any point in time) that picked this game specifically because they felt it would be a good one, and all 4 of them have kids under age 5. Babysitters are a wonderful thing.

I know AJ had a productive game but I'm still not sold on him at all. I think he sucks at this level, especially for a red shirt, and hope he makes an impressive sophomore jump. I'm very willing to be wrong on this!

AJ sucks at this level? He’s increasingly gotten more minutes over the last couple weeks and has played well. He’s knocked down 3’s, blocked shots and he’s one of the few players on the team that can electrify EBA. I believe he’s top 10 in the A10 in blocks. AJ does not suck, far from it. He sometimes looks lost in halfcourt defensive rotations but he’s slightly out of position at times guarding larger centers. Can’t believe this post got a like.

Wrong!

Everything about yesterday was awesome. As usual I brought several people who usually only attend one game and they were impressed by the entire game day atmosphere.

One actually said “why is this just the first time I’ve been here?” And asked how much season tickets were.

Yesterday felt like the laranaga days just for one night. A win to go along with a great crowd, great band, great play and great coaching. Games like this go a long way in piquing community/recruiting interest.

Greene is starting to become my favorite player. He’s been bringing a great spark off the bench and looks like a totally different player from the beginning of the year.

I don’t know what some others see in AJ. For every highlight block or dunk he has, he usually has a bad miss or a turnover to go with it. I really like him as a kid and a teammate, so I don’t want to bash him or anything like that, but I just don’t see why some other fans want him getting more minutes. I think he’s getting appropriate minutes right now. It’s not that I want more production from him, he’s got to clean up the mistakes.

For as many ups and downs this team has had this year, I can’t recall another team that seems to generally like each other and is as unselfish as this team. They all support one another and sincerely want others to do well - even the guy that plays in front of them and might be getting their minutes. I love our kids - no knuckleheads, all high character guys who put team first. That’s why I can’t even hate AJ - love his effort... love all of their efforts.

Nice win. Beat GW (finally), good showing on Homecoming... hopefully the students will keep coming out.

I didn't tell my friends yesterday about the new scoreboard and introductions. I thought it would be a nice surprise for them.

Wrong![/QUOTE]Well I certainly will look forward to coming back on here and saying I was wrong. So far what I see is missed bunnies, dunk attempts that turn into blocked shots because he goes up weak and doesn't have a pump fake, blown assignments on defense, frequently getting beat by his man rolling toward the basket, and until yesterday not being in the right spots on offense. I've heard coach yelling stuff at him I've not heard him have to yell at anyone else. And I believe his minutes are increasing because Calixte has stepped up his defense but doesn't yet know how to not foul, so they are forced to play AJ more.

I can't see every game, but so far that's what I see. Can't wait to say I was wrong and you were right!

AJ gave the team some really good minutes and production. He’s still very raw on both ends of the floor, and that’s okay. His playing time has steadily increased, and with that his consistency has improved. I guess the days of freshmen being given time to develop and adjust are over.

GIVING DAY 2023
When I envisioned some maturity in February, this is what I was counting on. GW Is awful, but mason coming off a bad loss still was able to get a win. They have enough to win, but they need to have everyone contributing in some way, whether it’s a key rebound, key three pointer, or helping on the defensive end.

Love the adjustments I saw on Yuta to get him switched off on defense and get opportunities in the zone. I could tell it was a focus point.

I also loved the fact they moved the ball well on offense and knocked down open looks from 3. I’m sure that felt good.

On defense they got the stops they needed, and Mar did a great job limiting Yuta, even though he got his points in the second half.

There’s continued progress from everyone, they’ll be inconsistent, but I’m seeing their abilities blossom. Looking forward to seeing it continue.

Greene has been fantastic the last few games. The game is slowing down for him, and he’s confident in what he brings to the table making threes and playing solid defense and getting on the glass. AJ has his moments, and I think the best is ahead for him. I’m glad he’s getting a few more minutes as well.

Nice team win, now let’s see two in a row.

And look, after having seen enough of Mar this year, it seems like at least right now his best position for us will be the stretch 4 next year, which means AJ will be backing him up, and will be the 3rd choice 5 next year. IF Mar can work on his first step and his handle on the perimeter, maybe he can transition to the 3 after Grayer graduates, and that would open up more minutes for AJ at the 4.

Everything 2000 said about AJ is fixable, some of it through coaching and repetition, a lot of it simply through game experience.

Boys - I got some crow to eat on Greene, and I couldn’t be happier to do so. I thought he would be the worst defensive player on the team and really struggle this year due to deficiencies on that side of the floor. Man do I love watching him jump passing lanes. Kid’s going to be a stud when he begins to consistently find his shot on the offensive side of the floor.
I too have crow to eat on Greene. I'm getting very full as we speak
