Your love affair with this coach is funny, but troubling. I bet if Paul Hewitt was on the sideline you, and many others on this board, would have no problem to pin this loss on him. Maybe that needs a little investigation...
Simple explanation really, PH took over a preseason Top 25 team. DP took over a PH dumpster fire.

If next year we are getting blown out at home by average teams and lose to FU, I would think more fans will jump off the DP bandwagon.

OK. Fair enough (although that team without Hancocks was hardly a Top 25 worthy team). Anyway, everybody keeps talking about what a great game coach this 'lil fella is and I just don't see it. I'm fairly certain already he can't recruit at the A-10 level and I just don't see him doing anything great on the sideline besides killing Diet Mountain Dew at unhealthy levels.

Who on Mason’s current roster would start on other A10 teams? Sure, any team would love to have a player like Otis, but what about our other two captains.

I would think all fans would be off the wagon. Just can't see supporting DP in that situation next year.

This loss sucks and is put on paulsen for not making the necessary adjustments. However, Mason is one of the top 25 youngest teams in the nation that have played somewhat competitively in some games. The verdict isn't out on Paulsen yet because of how challenging coaching a young team is, but I think if they don't have a good year next year with everyone coming back plus reuter, there's going to be some huge question marks.

Absolutely. What gets me is the league absolutely sucks and they still lose to bad basketball teams. I don't care if you are young, old or in between. If this guy is half the coach many on this board talk him up to be, then there is no way they lose to Fordham. G Mas will be looking for a new coach soon or maybe they'll go the Matt Brady/JMU route of 7 years.

Bottom line for all the angry fans is whatever you're thinking now, it's probably best to root for Paulsen for the sake of your own sanity. He's not going anywhere. Our administration is committed to him and your opinion won't change that at this juncture. The school didn't send Hewitt packing early when everyone saw the writing on the wall, so let's just assume that even if GMU basketball gets worse (still pretty unlikely), DP is going to finish out his contract.

The only reason I can fathom *not* rooting for DP is if he pulls a Brady and punches an improbable dance ticket at the end of his contract to seal an extension with nothing else on his record/resume at Mason that shows he's capable of long-term success in the A-10. That's the worse-case scenario that, as of right now, is complete conjecture.

If fans want to vent when we play like shit, I completely understand. Its warranted, it's expected. I even understand when we lose, someone putting a case together to fire Paulsen (Even though as Bricker pointed out, it ain't happening).

But where you lose all credibility is when you completely disappear or show no rejoice when the team wins. That shows that you value being right more than you value the team succeeding. It's almost as if they are sitting at home saying "f**k!" any time we score and clapping when we lose.

They seem to already have templates pre-written before every game and are just salivating to hit the"Post Reply" button and severely disappointed after a win when they can't.

I also want to add that I bet those same people never show up to EBA, and they live in the DC area. I find it hard to believe that a 17 game schedule (this season) doesn't allow for people to show up to a few games. There are 3 and 6 game plans, which allows flexibility. Considering ticket prices changed this season, and people that find seats in the season ticket area pay $45 at the door, season tickets are a steal now.

There is a rumor that the PoorManProfit will be in attendance on Saturday afternoon. Floor seats. I remember when seats were $10 at the door? What are they now? I don't pay for tickets.

I do not understand why so many people on this board are fixated on the idea that “fans” must attend games in person. If you are on this board you follow the team closely, thus you are a fan whether you go to the game or not.

I agree. I don't have the time to attend games like I did in the mid-90s/early 2000s and their state of play currently doesn't do much to get me out to Patriot Center.

People just don't want to spend money or time watching the games; more specifically money. When I was a student I used to go out of my way to watch games live at the patriot center. Now that I work and if the game is on TV, I just watch it from home, at least then I can be disappointed from the comfort of my couch.

I am pretty sure everyone on here works, it is an issue of time management. When I see people that bring their under 5 year olds to games, that says something to me.

This team could go 0-30 and it wouldn't stop me from attending. I like basketball, plain and simple.

You hit the nail on the head! I think we need to tell Bard about this topic and how people should behave on a message board.

Dear Bard

I write you again to share that I am Mason’s number one fan, but I don’t attend games, donate money or do anything but post on a message board. People tell me I’m not a real fan and stuff, it hurts my feelings.

Do you think you can tell them that I’m a superfan and that my thoughts carry more weight than anyone who attends games or actually donates money? In addition my wife doesn’t pay attention to me, so would you be willing to meet with me and give me attention? These are items I’d like to discuss.

Mason football
Why tickets aren’t free
Why other fans aren’t as good as me
Why I don’t attend games
Mason football (it’s that important, have you heard about endowments going up? I found it on the google)
Relocating people when I walk in so I have an entire section to myself
Red carpet welcome for superfans like me, poormanprofit and mason lawyer

Please let me know when I can expect your response, since I won’t be at a game to actually talk to you or other people who think they are fans but aren’t as good of a fan as me.

Signed

Can't disagree about time management. I look at this way: when there is a 7pm game during the week or even weekend, one has to consider do I want to drive there, pay money, have a chance of disappointment, drive back home in traffic and stop to get something to eat...or just cook at home and watch the game on TV. People don't want to jump over obstacles for a team that's slated to having a down year. For that reason alone that is enough to drive students and others away from attending.

To your point:
I do like when families bring kids or they have the local events with schools in the areas and the reasons for attending or not attending is up to the person.

I hope he was licking his chops thinking about all the open 3s he would’ve had against that funky-a** defense Fordham plays.

A good shooter would have had about 5 3s just standing in either corner all game long. Let them overplay Otis at the point and wait for the pass.

I can see the weeknight argument, but there have been some Saturday games that have been early afternoon (vcu being one as an example). Sports can be disappointing, regardless of the odds, but it is an escape from life. I know some people that drive at least 30 miles each way to the arena, but at the same time, they will know that the odds of catching up with their friends are pretty high and that helps to ease the pain of a potential loss.
