I am coming late to the conversation. I would say this was Hewitt's best coached game for a long while.
I'm glad somebody finally acknowledged this, especially one of Hewitt's most outspoken critics of late. I think almost all of us agree the coach hasn't done a great job this season, but there is nothing wrong with admitting when he has a good game.
I really loved our game plans on both ends yesterday, especially with how aggressively we were attacking the basket offensively. I believe our first 8 or 10 points came in the lane, and the fact that we didn't attempt a single 3 in the first half — largely in part because Holloway picked up two early fouls and had to sit — showed that there was a conscious effort to go right at their top-ranked defense. I believe the announcers said we were one of only two teams all year to shoot over 50% against them.
It would have been nice had the final play in regulation worked as it was drawn up, but I had no problem with it beginning with isolating Moore since he is our best ball-handler and penetrator. Many of us have been clamoring to have him in the games at the end, so it only makes sense to have the ball in his hands if he is going to be in there. Ideally, he would have driven all the way to the basket or dished it off before taking the jumper, but it's something he'll learn from.
