That was an amazing game and an amazing day. It was so awesome to connect with so many people from here and elsewhere whether it was in the parking lot or during halftime etc. Words can’t describe it.
If you are more worried about students not standing, when the band plays etc, I really don’t think that’s what’s important in a game Like yesterday. Yes the students looked disinterested. However that’s what they are at this point and dwelling on it, is a waste of time. However the other 5500 people who were in the arena were downright amazing, loud and engaging. The kids fed off it because we’d be loud after one play and they’d do something else and we got even louder. It’s the loudest the arena has been in years, and the most fun I’ve had at a game in years as well.
As far as the game, we over came a rough start but hung our hats on playing defense and getting back into it. We stopped settling for 3s and started going to the rim. Maddox started in the first half getting to the rim which really opened things up. Voila. Props to Rhode Island for seemingly making tough shot after tough shot, but fortunately we got enough stops to get the win.
okojie is an absolute stud and played out of this world yesterday. Hats off to him for constantly getting to the rim, hitting free throws and playing solid defense. His two steals really changed the game for us. I dont think we saw Ronny in half 2 and it will continue to spur the debate of whether Baraka needs to start. In my opinion, I think it’s time, and Ronny can be 6th man and first sub.
im going to try and rewatch the game and possibly put more thoughts together, but it really was a great game and great day.
