Yes, eventually.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, I don't accept your premise.

The staff has recruited so far from a position of weakness -- bottom-feeder for three straight years, mediocre facilities, etc. -- but I don't think it's fair to suggest that DP is going out of his way to recruit "2-star guys."

The recruiting has already gotten better and the staff has only just landed its third class here.

Intersting you mention a "position of weakness". Isn't that more reason to bring in immediate experience to help elevate our winning potential while getting guys phsycially ready via a redshirt? Newman, Keir, Temera, Dixon are physically outmatched. No question. Also, DeAndre lacks muscle. I don't see many wins this year. But I'm starting to doubt we break 16 wins the following year b.c other programs are tapping the transfer market. And we won't mention the Art School down below that just reloaded with several top 100 recruits in his 2nd year. Some may not like this outlook, but I believe its going to be a problem in the future. We need horses, not ponies.

I will admit I'd like to see some ready to compete in the A-10 transfers too. Gotta give Paulsen the benefit of the doubt though, he's built winners before.

With other teams in A10 taking transfers and 5th year grads, and/or rexruiting top 100 guys, anyone see us being a staple in the top 4 of this league with DP's approach of no transfers and 2 star guys?
no!

True, but the recruiting level in his former league wasnt like this. From mature strong body standpoint, the market is alot smaller, but the demand is higher in A10.

We've already covered this territory 100 times.

There is zero logic in adding transfers to a rebuilding program if your coach is interested in a sustainable, long-term model. Travis Ford went for transfers because he is in a hurry to get back to a P-5 job. That's not our coach's agenda.

As far as vcu goes, we need to get over trying to compare ourselves to them for the foreseeable future because that MFing ship sailed the second Jim L bolted for Miami and TOC hired Hewitt.

They have made the tournament 6 years in a row. They also built a $25M practice facility and have invested millions in renovating their arena.

Expecting Dave and the staff to recruit like perennial tournament teams is ridiculous. It's no longer 2010. The reality is we are a rebuilding program with mediocre facilities, a terrible fan/donor base and a group of players/coaches doing the best they can do.

That is the cold hard truth. I guess my expectations for getting to the dance will have to be adjusted up to 4-5 years. Which is 10-11 years from our last appearnce.

We are going to get much worse before this has a chance to get better........just saying.

DP and Co. got left a sh*t sandwich with our program. Forget scraping off the feces in between the slices, he's gotta go start a wheat farm, just to be able to make a new loaf of bread at this point.

Its year two and that arguement holds less water. Look what Jim L inherited here. An even bigger shit show. But turned it around in year 2. We are getting worse in year 2. A transfer shooter or two would have gone a long way. We basicly last in the country in 3pt% last year and on our way to dead last this year. But its all good, I embrace the process, even if it takes 7 years. Atleast our players will graduate on time, and all that good stuff.

I think we need to clear up one thing right now: While L was and is a great coach, he also was extremely lucky that GE decided to come to Mason and became a three-time CAA POY.

Without Evans, there is zero chance that the program gets turned around as quickly as it did.

We're also no longer in a league where only 4-5 teams are seriously trying to compete.

Then throw in the Hewitt factor. GT is 5 years beyond that idiot, is on its second coach and one analyst suggested they might go winless in the ACC this season.

They were a top-tier ACC team for a generation before Hewitt. He literally gutted them.

Fortunately, Edwards and Cabrera fired his a** after 4 years instead of letting it drag on. So we at least have a chance to turn it around more quickly.

But now our staff is trying to claw its way out of the basement, in a league where most teams have equal or greater resources/facilities, by recruiting kids who were in elementary school when we went to the FF.

KA is absolutely right. It's going to get worse (in terms of wins and losses) before it gets better. We are literally starting again at square one.

then all more the reason to get a transfer. If we continue to get out recruited how will we ever get ahead. You need to take chances every once in a while. We need a true shooter!

That's a joke, a coach gets 3 years. That's how successful programs evaluate their coaches.

Preferred Walk-On
If Hewitt players would have stayed, we could have had a very strong nucleus of players. DP fumbled the ball. He recruited all guards and no dominant big, and he thinks we're better without Shevon???? Its the making of a long season!
