It sounds like there is a lot more to it then just what he is saying. Obviously he felt that 1) guys would be entering the portal immediately and 2) too many guys would be hurt and not able to play.

Now whether hes just saying that to save face, theres truth. Who knows. But I suspect there is more to this story.

I know as a Mason fan, if we declined an NIT invite, there better be a really good reason, especially considering Mason hasn't been in any postseason competition in 10+ years except for the CBI.

St. Bonaventure AD resigns after spurning NIT

St. Bonaventure athletic director Joe Manhertz resigned abruptly after opting to keep the school's men's basketball program out of the NIT without initially informing its players and fans.
