starting RP and keeping an eye on how he’s doing and adjusting the lineup as needed is exactly what Coach Skinn is already doing and I think is the best strategy for this year. We can have a conversation in the offseason about what happens next year…

And let’s keep in mind that 3 of our 4 slow starts in conference were on the road to hot shooting teams and yes we went 1-2 in those road games but that’s not exactly the end of the world scenario.
I think in the LaSalle game he did. I think in the Bonnies game he did. The richmond and GW games just got a little out of reach and shots were falling for them etc and maybe he felt the need to chase from behind and went to the shooter. I think vcu game got the best of Skinn and the team, think it was his worst coached game of the year. It happens to the best of them. Even Coach L rarely beat vcu. It's all about progress along the way. Saw some of that in the Bonnies game, they came back made adjustments and got the W.

Yeah, maybe I'm wrong about starting Okojie. RP has sort of earned the role, and when he is on, he's excellent. Dribble drive, 3s, etc. But when he's not, turnovers, cold shooting, he's a real liability. Start him and see how it goes, but 2-3 turnovers in a row is a killer.
Delicate balance for Tony.

A10 Stats posted some data relevant to the lineup debate earlier today:

Performance of Mason Lineups
So the Offense is better with Polite, the defense is better with Okojie, so sums up the argument of what pretty much the general perception has been. If Okojie can start to score more the debate is over. Yes the 2nd best combo on offense has been using both granted Newton vs Okojie isn't that big of a difference. The defense however with both on court is the worst which also isn't surprising. Would like to see one or 2 more combos on there but none the less, the numbers confirm the perception is real.

I would love to see what Polite, Kelly, Henry, Newton, Billiups looks like. Or what, Okojie, Kelly, Henry, Newton, Maddox looks like.

Unless we are playing a team with 2 bigs, I can't see Kelly or Henry running out and guarding the perimeter.

Great stat display!.....how did you find this? Is there a site that does this for every team?
A10 Stats On Twitter Does it occasionally for all A10 Teams. I don't know where they get the data.

Wow - tuning into Richmond @ Va. Tech and announcer said the Bonnies turned down an NIT bid. Surprising.

Apparently 17 teams turned it down

The full list of NIT-declining schools, per ESPN: Arizona State, California, Florida State, Indiana, Maryland, Memphis, Oklahoma, Ole Miss, Oregon State, Pitt, St. Bonaventure, St. John’s, Stanford, Syracuse, UCLA, USC, Washington.

Also, from the same article

Bona went 20-13 overall, the No. 7 seed in the Atlantic 10 (9-9 in conference). Asked Saturday afternoon after a 70-60 Atlantic 10 semifinal loss to Duquesne about playing more basketball and if Bona would take a potential NIT invite, coach Mark Schmidt responded affirmatively.

“Yeah, hopefully. Who knows,” Schmidt said. “I don’t know what they think, but we won 20 games. I’ve been here 17 years, and I think we’ve only done that five other times. This was the sixth time that we won 20 games. So we had a good year. It was up and down. The last game never defines you. Very few teams win that last game.”

Within days of the semifinal loss at the Barclays Center, three players (Barry Evans, Kyrell Luc, Melian Martinez) reportedly entered the transfer portal.

Tony said on Twitter he would have accepted.
And for us being so far removed from post season play, it almost seems like a no-brainer. Although what he said about the NIL and portal, along with changes to the NIT does make you wonder how attractive anything outside the NCAAT will be going forward.

Yeah, I mean it would be really hard for Mason to accept an NiT invite if Hall, Polite, and Malik didn’t want to play in it and entered the portal. Skinn would be left with 7 available players at that point.

Someone needs to put a boot up these kids asses across the board as part of their scholarship agreement.

Unless you have the bonafide injury, while you are here on scholarship you will play the games scheduled.

Oh you want to sit? How about we evict you from campus housing?

Christ what a nightmare.

STATEMENT FROM ST. BONAVENTURE:
From Director of Athletics Joe Manhertz:
We understand that ESPN posted a graphic regarding the selection of the NIT Tournament field on air Tuesday night.
Reaching the NCAA Tournament is the goal for St. Bonaventure basketball each year. We unfortunately came up short of that goal. Considering the logistics of what would have been an NIT road game, we made the proactive decision Sunday afternoon to inform the NIT selection committee of our concerns regarding roster uncertainty given injury and the transfer portal that would have left us at a competitive disadvantage. Together, athletics department administration and the coaching staff made the decision in the best interest of our student-athletes.
No invitation was extended prior to our conversation with the NIT committee. We respect the NIT and not only its history overall, but what the tournament has meant to our program. We look forward to future postseason competition.
