Thanks for the response. I didn't see any of the game, so I had no idea. I'm not sure I'd agree with Jenkins being a better option period. Why can't they be on the floor together more?

We can't really play them together because that forces Jalen to the 4 and in DP's system, the 4 man needs to be able to play away from the basket.

Jalen is a beast around the basket. Truth be told, he's got better footwork and post moves than Shevon, who as we all know is still very mechanical.

I think we forget that Jalen was an A-10 all-rookie pick because Hewitt destroyed his confidence by forcing him to play away from his strengths.

His re-emergence gives us two very good options at the 5, with Abram, Marko and Royal at the 4.

I hope Jalen gets a chance to start at the 5 next season.

I made the trip to Davidson as I have a friend in the general area.

The band was all of seven people.

There were about 20 Mason fans in attendance.

Mason tried a lot of driving into the lane shots. Davidson put up 3's like there was no tomorrow. No timeouts were used in the first half by either team. Paulsen had the refs look at an out of bounds with about 75 seconds left, something Hewitt never would have done.

Wednesday night will be telling in terms of building on this.

Jenkins would have been a better fit against St Bonnie in the high pick and roll.

(Missed a good portion of tonight's game, so not sure if we played a high pick and roll or Jenkins in it or not.)

No offense to Shevon, who by all accounts is a tremendous young man, but if Jalen keeps practicing his a** off I wouldn't be surprised to see him starting very soon.

Also I think we need to get back to running pick-and-pop with Marko like we did during the non-conference.

We're getting absolutely nothing from the pick-and-roll. The only reason to set the high ball screen is to get Otis or Marquise into the lane -- nobody is even looking at the big man rolling to the basket.

First game I did not follow live in a while - sounds like a good effort in keeping it close though. Nice work fellas - now let's get an A-10 W.

Don't have anything to add to the Jenkins/Thompson controversy, but it'd be be nice to get both of them going.

Preferred Walk-On
From watching the game -

Moore played a outstanding game, kept us in the game first half - they could not defend his drives to basket but Davidson did a better job in the second half of not allowing him to go in so easily but he still drove in several times in 2nd half.

All the freshman played really well - Otis continues to impress throw in the fact he is a freshman even more impressive. Grayer looked like he got his shot back a couple nice drives to the basket as well.

Some unforced turnovers in the second half with a few missed shots allowed Davidson to claw back. Also as it was getting tight GMU missed some free throws.

Jalen looked like Jalen from freshman year - made some shots close to the rim, tip ins and I think 2 jump shots he seemed to better in control on fouls and I don't think (I could be wrong) he was called for traveling - I think he did get a charge call....

First time GMU has shot well outside of the Eagle bank arena (and Charleston).

Shevon looked good on offense when he had the ball and was getting his share of rebounds - someone mentioned his defense was the problem because of Davidson's speed and spreading the floor around - and I would agree with that

Davidson can score - Gibbs hit some tough shots as well as some hard to defend shots (his floater) and his free throw shooting is interesting - like a shooting drill - Ref bounces the ball to him and he catches and shoots.

Look forward to the rematch in Fairfax.

With Jenkins blowing up this game, if the players can become consistent we could be a dangerous team come a10 tournament time.

That sounds about right, some of the 3's Davidson got were wide open, others were several feet behind the line. Mason hasn't been able to defend the 3 point line in forever.

Shevon was double teamed off and on when he got the ball, but I think Davidson realized that he was more than likely to lose the ball somehow instead of driving it inside.

We should get better at defending the 3-pointer under Paulsen. He said in his meet and greet before the season that made 3-pointers by the other team were one of the biggest momentum killers and that his teams made it a priority to defend them.

I guess it takes a while to get there...

Team played great, and defended Davidson about as well as can be reasonably expected (they are simply a very good shooting team and Gibbs is legit). Our turnovers, largely unforced, and poor FT shooting were the difference.

We start three freshman and have a fourth coming off the bench to play significant minutes. This season is what it is.

I don't have very high expectations until years 3 & 4.

Didn't watch the game so I can't add anything- but want to say something because the boards seem to be lagging. The number of posts directly correlates to our win/loss column.

I would say the vast majority of our games not being on TV also correlates to less game posts. Hard to post about something you haven't seen. You can only observe so much from a box score and write up.

There's also an unfortunate drop in what to say, now that Hewitt is gone, TOC is gone, there isn't much for us to complain about especially knowing that the program is rebuilding from the virus that loved 6'7 power forwards.

Don't you mean 6'7" athletes with no position who were promised starter's minutes at PG so they could reach their NBA dreams?
