Relvao may not rack up the stats in the box score, but he changes the game inside with his size and his long arms. He makes our opponents take more difficult shots.

You also have to remember he's coming off knee surgery and essentially has two bad knees. I like his upside, especially once he's completely recovered. AND he still has three more years under Paulsen's tutelage. His future looks bright.

I have been pleasntly surprised with Relvao....he seems to know his role and doesn't try to play over his head. His offensive and rebounding game will come with minutes. Other then getting lost out on the hedge and leaving Holloway for the dunk I though he gave us solid minutes last night.

These last 2 games seemed to crying out for a guy with the athleticism of Abram, he must really be far down on the depth chart. Can't see him getting more minutes next year with Wilson coming off the red shirt and Mar coming in as a high touted freshmen. We shall see I guess.
The last blow out game when he got a chance to play, he did score like 8 pts but you could see his defensive decencies. Guards were just blowing by him.

I'm not clamoring for his return to the line up, just seems funny they he started game 1. You would think these defensive issue would have come up in practice. I'm all about playing Boyd and Kier as much as possible, those 2 seem to have a great feel for the game and are no doubt team fist guys.

Couldn't agree more. I think he fills in nicely. Obviously Jenkins provides us an extra offensive option. But when Relvao comes into the game, I feel confident he will play solid defense and the game still stays in tact.

Hes only a freshman, and the 5 position is a hard transition. You have to be really physical. I think most centers would benefit from red shirting like he did

I see Relvao being a defense/rebound focused 5 within Paulsen's scheme.

As he gets more comfortable on defense, I expect he will become more of a force on defense. Obviously that is a work in progress. Once he finds a way to push guys around and rebound aggressively on the offensive end, I see him cleaning up on the boards and being able to score easy buckets. He may not be a force in the post scoring wise, but he definitely can contribute 5-7 points a game by the time he is done, in my opinion.

Relvao is going to be a pretty good player. We have already seen his ability to alter shots around the rim on defense and I think he will become a more aggressive rebounder once he figures out positioning and finally realizes that he's 6'9/6'10 260lbs.

I liked that he tried a quick hook shot last night and he has made a couple of really nice passes from the top of the key so far this season. As many have said, he will never be an offensive force, but he has shown flashes of being effective and understanding his role as a screener. He is raw and his overall game is continuing to get incrementally better. He is an important part of the future.

"I was at the game last night and the officiating was bad both ways. There was a lot of bad acting and the officials called a fair amount of fouls based on the acting. Holloway got hacked a lot and got no calls. As NilesGold wrote, Jenkins lowered his shoulder into Holloway every time to create separation. I've seen a lot of fouls called on similar plays. Baldwin or Gresham played center when Holloway went out and Jenkins was too strong for them. We missed Hines last night. The game was fairly physical last night and I expect the rematch to be more physical - these two teams do not like each other. Baldwin set a pick last night and the GM player ran into him and was not happy. The next play, the same player drove to the basket and kneed Baldwin who was limping afterwards. Later on, Baldwin had his legs taken out and landed hard - foul was called. Flowers took an elbow to the face in the first half and was on the ground for awhile. The officials looked at the video afterwards. Clark's fifth foul sent a GM player to the ground - not sure if it was acting or not - need to see the replay. Same for the hip check (Lewis?) that sent a GM player out of bounds in the last couple of minutes. UMASS did not catch a break when the GM player knocked the ball out of either Deeky's hands or Anderson's hands and the ball hit the official to stay in bounds. From where I was sitting, that ball was probably going out of bounds. I look forward to this rematch."

Once Kier is back, if we can steal even a couple minutes from the 9th man in the rotation, that's a couple minutes of rest for Otis or Marquise.

Otis' average playing time has been constant during his career (34.3 and 34.4 mpg in 2015-16 & 2016-17, respectively). Marquise's average playing time has increased since last season (32.5 to 35.3 mpg), but I believe this is attributed to his injury last season. Marquise has averaged 37 minutes per game with the groin injury while playing against physical teams.

Anyone have a link to the postgame for this? I was searching for it but couldn't find it on gomason or this thread. Although I didn't look incredibly hard.

At least 3 will transfer within the next two years
You play with what you have, and Paulsen has Relvao. At the very least he will see 10-15 minutes a game next season splitting time at the 5. His development over the next year is very important, as is everyone else's. I have no doubt that Paulsen will look to improve the post play on the roster when/if a scholarship opens up, but I don't think Relvao should be written off just yet given how new the game still is to him.

Things got a little chippy last night between Mason and UMass. That's what happens when you fight for every possession. #BurnYourBoats
