UMass is clearly not at URI 's level, but given UMass' new coach and roster upheaval with their transition, they appear to where we were in Paulsen's first year.

UMass will regret their coaching hire. UTC was a mess. Their fans were happy he left.

While I have expressed some concerns with Paulsen's recruiting chops, I don't have any concerns about his coaching ability. Winning games like this will help when recruiting against A10 teams.

GIVING DAY 2023
That was an effort to be proud of. Started off well, dealt with adversity in the form of fatigue and a stretch of poor shooting. Overcame yet another physical mismatch. Didn't quit after giving up the lead. Sucked it up and dominated in overtime. Wow! Well done young men, well done. Otis was an absolute stud. Loved that we pushed the ball and attacked the rim. Wonderful effort by Calixte, you young man is growing in front of or eyes. Good job winning on the road with essentially 6 players.

Sign of a well coached team finally coming into vision. I really liked that they pushed the ball at times as well and got themselves some easy baskets, and when they had to play half court, they moved the ball and got good shots. Even when they missed a few, the looks were good. They still have to clean up some turnovers and traveling but that stuff comes. Defensively they crashed on Holloway and crashed the boards as much as they could, and didn't let them dictate with extra offensive rebounds.

Reminded me a bit of the Penn State game last year. They didn't play as flawless, but it seemed like they ran the show up and down the court for a big chunk of the 40 minutes.

Grabbing any road win will be huge for us as we progress in conference play. If our freshmen continue to develop, we could eke out some wins that currently we might not right now.

Boyd has the tools. I think it's just mental for him right now. Last night, he was backing down a smaller defender in the right low post, the defender flopped and fell on the ground, and Ian just sort of stood there dribbling for a second, as if he was expecting a whistle to be blown. Then he ended up passing to a cutting Grayer on the baseline while his defender was sitting on the ground, I believe, and I don't think Jaire even scored on that play. Most guys with his size and strength would have blasted to the rack for an easy dunk on that play. I still have faith that he'll get there, but he may just be a later bloomer.

OK, I was only able to listen to the game and have not seen UMass play this year, but how the hell does that team I listened to the other night go and win AT Dayton with 6 schollies and a walk-on? I know Dayton is nothing special this year but DAMN. Winning there is always a feat. I love this sport.

I honestly believe from some random "insider" comments I heard (not that I am an insider anymore... Just heard things from someone who knows someone who knows someone who knows something) that Boyd is dealing with an injury that is limiting his ability. Blasting to the rack is no longer a possibility and I think he is playing scared. Not bad enough to even consider having him not play on a team with an already tiny roster, but bad enough that he just cannot play to his strengths.

Please take with a grain of salt. I have no inside knowledge and rarely get to watch the team play due to living so far away and not having most of their games on TV. But I do trust whom I heard it from, and they think what they are seeing on the court is consistent with the "minor knee injury" rumor.
