They just had too much experience, talent and athleticism for us tonight, especially with Marquise obviously dealing with an injury. Good learning experience for our young guys. Otis is usually calm as a cucumber, but you could tell the large crowd and their press got him out of sync early on. I hate losing to vcu, but we will be better because of this game.

Gave up way too many offensive rebounds. Couldn't get a call when we drove to the hoop and getting to the line is a big part of the offense. Moore lost his swag once he got blocked two or three trips in a row after that he was tentative. Livingston was gassed and forcing things at the end. Jenkins in foul trouble. Almost everything that could go wrong did, and for the most part we hung in there and fought.

Big props to Ian Boyd for stepping up with some big points and minutes, he's going to be a great player. Nobody here expected anything more than a .500 A-10 season and that seems about right. Not happy with the loss but happy with the fight. vcu is just a better team at his point in time but we are on the way up.

Nice crowd for a change. Wish more Mason fans came out like this on a regular basis. No doubt we'll be back to 3,500-4,000 on Wednesday.

Disappointing night. Out rebounded. Poor officiating at crucial times gave the douchbags from vcu the edge. Gave up too many easy layups and Otis was their punk tonight. Sad to say that he played scared and very poorly. Hopefully he will learn from this. Ian Boyd on the other hand competed. Liked what I saw from him. Thought 7 - 11 in conference was attainable, we'll see how we respond on Wednesday night. One final thought..... FU to any GMU season ticket holders who sold their seats to vcu fans. I had to sit next to an absolute a** the entire night.

There was a group of vcu fans that were courtside, which means that is one of the big donors that gave those seats up for this game.

Thank them in person on Wednesday?

Or that they were guests of someone high up at Mason or something and were able to sit there-

Anyway- vcu dictated the pace of the game for the most part, kept Mason uncomfortable in the half court, got easy buckets, a few bounces and calls and that was that. Athleticism and experience helped them out too. Hopefully Mar/Wilson can help with the athleticism difference going forward- and the guys get better as they play more games like this, especially with this type of crowd.

Encouraged by this type of game, and I think that they still have a chance to win a few games in the league this year. Senior laded teams are going to be difficult to beat because of the youth- but there should be some winnable games.

We were a completely different team offensively after Marquise got hurt and stopped going to the rim. It's obvious how reliant we are on his penetration to make things easier for everyone else.

That said, we need to do a better job of driving and dishing. Our guys have gotten used to getting all the way to the rim. Against better teams you have to draw the bigs and find an open teammate or it's just one blocked shot after another.

As poorly as we shot the ball, it's a tribute to the team's blue-collar mentality that they were able to stay within 5-6 points for most of the second half.

These guys play so hard. It's like night and day from the Hewitt years.

Agree with most on Mason's effort. Tough loss. Disappointed in the outcome.

vcu is a physical team. When they opened with the early run it seemed we were in trouble. With Jenkins only getting 21 minutes and Moore hampered by the groin, we weren't running on four cylinders. Yet, it is pretty clear we can play with anyone.

As an aside Jenkins is so integral to our success this year. vcu's bench erupted when he got his fourth. The #1 bullet point on scouting reports has got to get him into foul trouble.

As GmuTom mentioned earlier it may not have been the worst thing to start with this kind of game. Paulsen now has a watermark to hit for A10 play. Winter break is over. The real season is upon us. Lookng forward to us taking the "learning to win" onto the A10.

My thoughts from last night:

1) vcu is brutal in the half court. When we slowed the game down, we owned them. We were killed by a combination of rebounding, bad decisions at crucial moments, and shoddy refereeing.
2) vcu fans are the worst. I sat behind a couple that literally cheered for a minute on a goaltending call. They were the stereotype to a "t". Richmond trash.
3) I'm done with the Green Machine singing. It's terrible and ruins the music. Someone get them to stop.
