Game 14: GMU (7-6 / 3-4) at St. Joe’s (1-11 / 0-6) on Saturday at 12:30PM. 2nd Game of Back to Back

With all due respect, your attitude is Exhibit A of what is wrong with the Mason fan base.

No fan — short for “fanatic” — should ever be content with year after year of nothing better than mediocre crap.

Now three months ago Herndon, you were not what was wrong with the Mason fan base though.

You were Jim.

Do you guys ever have nuanced discussion, ever?

And could people ever just let a game thread be a game thread?

Look, I get it. Some folks here want what they want, and whether or not it's likely to be achieved is not going to be a large part of their reasoning.

So, I'll stop trying to convince you.

Tell yourself that Mason ought to be in the top of the A10 every year. Tell yourself Mason ought to be in the NCAA tourney every 3 years. Tell yourself a National Championship is right around the corner, if only we fired the head coach.

I learned that you can't make people be reasonable or happy if they don't want to be from my ex, and I should have remembered that.

Nobody I know has unrealistic expectations. Expecting to be consistently better than mediocre and NCAA caliber once every 3-4-5 years is not unrealistic for a program like Mason. But keep putting up those straw men...

I think I’ve already said my approach is I’m gonna support the coach until he proves definitively he’s not the guy, then I am done.

With Hewitt it was obvious very quickly the guy had to go. With Paulsen, I believed he had things moving in the right direction until last season, and was willing to give him a mulligan if he came back with an NCAA/NIT-caliber team this year. That could not possibly be further from the case.

I probably could still support him if there was light at the end of the tunnel, but there isn’t. We finally have an experienced roster and we’re still utterly irrelevant. No need for nuance ... time to move on.

That's fine...your opinion is fine...but so is Herndon's...he is not symptomatic of anything. Especially midway through the season.

I'd be happy with.500 too this year, really.

Do I think Paulsen is the answer? Probably not, I have major issues with some recent stuff,, but I'm also tired of the boards overreacting to everything.

Enjoy the win on a Saturday, if you guys are capable....and, Richmond just lost to LaSalle.

Chill

Don’t you find it just a bit telling that you’d be OK with going .500 with Dave’s “most experienced team”?

I do.

What is the ceiling under DP? I'm pretty sure that we've already seen it. That's why people want to move on. Keeping DP is basically saying, "no tournament appearances for another 10 years? SIGN ME UP!".

I'm happy with the game today. Problem is, St. Joe's only win is against Albany. Tough to say the program is heading in the right direction because of a 2 game winning streak against St. Joe's. Let's see how GMU finishes in the A-10 this year.

I think Herndon makes some fair points though. It's complicated I guess.

I think the other thing to think about is being 9-9 is very deceptively “mediocre.” If we go 9-9 most likely 6 of those wins are going to come from teams 12-14 in the standings (2 from St. Joes, 2 from GW, 1 from La Salle, 1 from Fordham). It’ll mean being 3-9 against the rest of the conference.

You see what I'm saying, here? I never bought into the fact that this was supposed to be somehow Dave's best team in the first place...so....

But our shit head says this stuff which makes him, well,.a shit head.

And Reuter being all conf.

These are facts. And they prove he is clueless.

By my count I saw 4-5 off ball back door cuts on the perimeter today. taking bids on what to ridicule on the boards prior to next Wed game...

15 turnovers is a good bet, especially against GW (of that game gets played).

I had no idea that this was his most experienced team. Which makes absolute sense now and actually makes letting him go easier.

THE most experienced team under his direction, is playing exactly like his coaching ability has been in the A10--average to below average, not creative and completely lacking enough talent to compete in this league.

IDK if its actually his most experienced team or its just what he said, maybe also thinking he had Boyd.

All I know is I totally agree that some of the things DP says pretty much rightly earns him a lot of criticism...
