Game 12: Longwood University, Monday, December 12th, 7 PM, NO TV

Preferred Walk-On
The only negative of this game is the fact that it was such a blowout that Moore's streak of double-doubles has ended (I think he is going to wind up with 8 rebounds)
I was thinking the same thing! Moore would have easily gotten a double double. I believe the starters sat out the last 12- 13 mins. I don't think that was a good idea, Maybe the last 5 0r 6 mins. You don't want to mess the rhythm up right now, but I was glad to see Deandre play, appears he has been in DP dog house for some time now.

"'I don't think there is a positive to today's game,' said Longwood head coach Jayson Gee. 'I thought we were beat up and dejected early. We faced a hot team that had won seven games in a row and is playing at a high level. They won by 19 at Penn State, and we certainly weren't able to match that level of effort.'

The Patriots attacked Longwood (2-6) with a balanced effort in which they scored 33 points in the paint, 30 from three-point range and 29 from the free throw line. Four of their starters scored in double figures, including the aforementioned guard trio and freshman guard Justin Kier. Starting forward Jalen Jenkins also approached a double-double with nine points and eight rebounds, while the Patriot reserves added 25 points from the bench.

'They've made a commitment to driving to the basket, and the games where they've struggled are games where they didn't get a lot of free throws," Gee said. "Obviously this game was not like that.'"

How was the student turnout tonight/overall turnout? I didn't get out of class early enough to get to Fairfax.

Great win! I said earlier tonight was more of a test of our ability to focus and take care of business than anything. Safe to say we passed. One thing I'm loving about the Paulsen era - we are very, very good at putting away inferior opponents. Aside from the two years with NCAA tournament wins, even Larranaga teams frequently screwed around and played down to their level of competition. That doesn't look like it's going to happen with Paulsen. Other stuff (all with a grain of salt because Longwood sucks):

- Jaire finally had the game we needed from him. 17 points on 10 shots, 3/6 from three, and added 5 steals. Needs to keep that up against better competition if he's gonna keep his starting role.

- Justin Kier had another quiet but productive and efficient game. Does what he's asked, plays within himself, and never makes the wrong play. He's not the kind of guy who becomes the star, but he's the kind of guy you find on every successful team. He's looking more and more like a fantastic find by the staff.

- Boyd was 1-7 from the field, but his ability to get to the line salvaged his night. 7 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and a steal for the future A-10 player of the year. Dude can FILL UP the box score and scores even when his shot isn't falling.

- Karmari made some freshman plays tonight, but it's clear that he's such a natural scorer with the ball in his hands. On his only bucket he drove into the paint, stopped on a dime, elevated, and hit a twelve-foot jumper. I've had a few beers but I'm gonna be very honest and tell you it reminded me of Cameron Long.

- Defense was very good again tonight. Teams are now shooting 29.1% (59/203) from deep against us during the streak. Otis did a good job fighting through screens but he still goes under almost exclusively. Longwood ran a lot of double screens from the top of the key in the first half, and better shooting teams are going to make him pay for going under so much.

- It was a lot of fun to see Paulsen empty the bench tonight. Glad for Kam, Deandre, Danny, and Myles that they got to see the floor. No one played their way into the rotation (though Deandre looked OK) but those guys are always cheering their butts off on the bench.

Very encouraging to see us handle our business like we needed to. Let's do the same thing against Prairie View next week, who also sucks.

"Marquise Moore collected another rebound because, although 6 feet 2, he plays like he is 6-8. Otis Livingston II made another free throw without interruption because, since the second game of the season, he hasn’t missed.

Leaving the game in the first half, Karmari Newman startled referee Sean Hull with a high-five because, well, he is a freshman.

When the only question was whether George Mason would score 100 against Longwood on Monday, the starters hooted and hollered and waved towels from the sideline in support of the subs because, these days, the Patriots are having a whole lot of fun.

It’s been awhile.

After three consecutive 20-loss seasons, Dave Paulsen’s bunch has won eight straight, the latest a 97-60 romp over the in-state Lancers. It’s the longest streak since the 2010-11 squad ran off 16 in a row during Jim Larranaga’s final season."

I am glad you posted that. I was thinking the same thing, and then convinced myself I was just having a selective memory. It was nice to beat the snot out of an opponent that we were supposed to beat the snot out of.

They have a name for that condition now. I believe it is called "Vaughan Gray Syndrome".

I've slept with Moore, but I didn't fall in love with him. He won't stop blowing up my phone though, and it's annoying af. He's a f--- boi though, and I aint falling for it.
