Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the last 40+ years you already know about Duke basketball. 38 NCAA appearances in the last 41 seasons. 5 NCAA championships. 17 Final Four appearances. 24 Elite 8 appearances. 29 Trips to the Sweet 16.
Captain Obvious reports that Duke is a member of the ACC. They were picked to finish 1st in 24-25 preseason polls. Cooper Flagg finished 2nd in preseason Conference Player of the Year voting behind RJ Davis of North Carolina. Flagg is the favorite to be ACC Rookie of the Year as well as being selected to the ACC 1st Team in polling and will most likely be the first pick in the 2025 NBA draft.
The game is on the ACC Network.

Thoughts: Given their size advantage it will be interesting to see who starts and how we match up. I’m assuming Woody matches up against Flagg. Do we go with Gio and Jalen as starters to deal with the bigs? I look at Darius as a key, he’s played at Cameron before and hopefully he’ll give the team some advice about how to handle the Crazies.
I’ve always been, and always will be, a Mason fan first. But, Duke is #2 in my book. I always liked and respected Coach K and Jon Scheyer has done a good job of following a true legend.
They have height, athleticism, skill, talent, and the ultimate in home court advantages. They average about 11 3’s made per game. The optimist in me says we play hard, compete and hang tough losing by 8-10 points. The pessimist in me says we get blown out from the start and lose by 50. The realist in me predicts a 15-20 point loss. We just don’t have enough threats offensively and defending the 3 will be very difficult.
Looking forward to the game and seeing how we stack up, especially after a 10 day break for exams. Go Mason!
