Game 1: Towson University, Saturday, November 12th, 7 PM, NO TV

Not sure what to think of the game. They played bully ball up the middle the entire game but we refused to go bigger. Also expected Otis to create more but maybe he's still adjusting to the 4 guard line up.

It was men vs boys tonight. Towson so much bigger and stronger at every position. Our guys need to get a hell of a lot bigger and stronger if we will ever begin to compete. It was JJ Walker vs Hulk Hogan tonight.

Pros: Jenkins, Kier had moments, 3 ball looked improved even though it didn't fall a lot

Cons: zero penetration, continually got toasted on the baseline, too many rebounds/passes seemed to slip through our hands

The good: scheme, I see sophomore improvement, freshmen look like they each have a role, relvao is a big fella who can rebound, Boyd is a beast of a guard, kier can play the point a bit, etc. I definitely see lots of potential. Also, bit of a different scheme on defense, a bit more defensive pressure and trapping which will be great for the long run.

The bad: freshmen gonna be freshmen, growing pains on offense and defense- just going to take time for development - whether it's making a few more shots, reducing turnovers, etc- it just will take time.

Towson was a more experienced physical team, although sloppy at points they got things done when it mattered. A young team like Mason would struggle with that 99% of the time at this stage.

Long way to go. Saw some promise from Boyd and Relvao. Jenkins was a beast, just what we need him to be down low but he needs some help. Abram had two nice dunks and battled well down low for rebounds. I was hoping to see a big leap forward from Livingston and Grayer but they didn't really look any different than the players we saw last year. Was surprised that Temara didn't get any minutes from all we heard about him coming into the season.

Pretty disappointing crowd for the home opener other than the student section which was pretty full.

Mason shot 4 of 22 from 3 point land tonight, and other than Jenkins they couldnt get much going on offense. All part of the growing pains.

Lebanon Valley cant get here fast enough. I am not used to losing to Towson.

It was a game GMU could have won but some poor processions down the stretch and the inability to stop Towson down the stretch lost the game. Its the first game
of the season and that Townson team was a big team - those guys were bulked up and much
more experienced team.

I was surprised to see so many of the freshman in you could tell some freshman jitters especially on some of their shots.

Still to many turnovers but they were not the types from the Hewitt days.

Not to get all philosophical, but lasting success in any endeavor isn't linear.

Many of the elements that lead to success -- facilities are the glaring exception -- have been put in place.

Now it's simply a matter of how quickly a group of 18- and 19-year-olds can convert their shared potential into consistent production.

They are working very hard to do so. These kids care very deeply and know they very well could've had that one last night. Nobody feels worse about the result than they do.

The students represented. Granted, it was a Saturday night. But it was also a Saturday night for us non-students.
