AU after starting 5-6 from 3 finished 3-21 -- not a bad recovery by Mason's defense on the perimeter at least.

Marko needs to be in the starting 5. Don't know if JA was hurting or what, but he sucked tonight against a team with no inside game.

And with all the experience we have, I don't understand why our guys still look like they don't know what kind of team

No fire, as usual. Sleepwalking through the first 36 minutes against a team picked to finish last in the Patriot League.

If we don't improve A LOT by January, we might just finish last in the A-10 ... and that's not hyperbole.

Hopefully this puts an end to the delusions of grandeur some of our fans have been experiencing. Returning everybody from an average team does not make a great team.

With Copes suspended and J2 hurt, we needed Arledge to step up big time. Sadly, he was a non-factor on both ends. Luckily, Allen and Marko showed up tonight, and Sherrod finally turned it up late in the game.

I'll cut them a little slack for the first game, but I'm expecting a lot of what we saw tonight all season.

Just got home - a lot to chew on. Despite the gloom on here it was not all bad.

1.0 Atmosphere was great tonight - a lot of students showed up - filled the sections to the top.
2.) They had promo videos before the game with music nice touch.
3.) Marko - really upped his game - showed some new offensive skills and played great defense. Lots of heart.
4.) The team came out foggy for the first 8 minutes - when they settled down - they did play great defense. The entire second half AU was going all the way to 7-9 seconds on the clock before they could make a shot.
5.) Free Throws were bad - if we shot our normal average - we would have had another 7-9 points.
6.) Defense - played much better accept for 4 thee pointers from AU where they were wide open. The couple they got in the second half were contested
7.) We had very little attempted shots from the perimeter. One of the few times I would have liked more 3 point attempts.
8.) President Cabrerra was there with the Mayor of Fairfax.

Good to put a mark in the win column.

the differences in 2006 and 2011we had coaches that would make adjustments in game and now we have a coach who just can't do that and be effective. instead we have to wait until have time to tell the players to switch on the screens instead of going underneath. And I don't think we attempted a 4 guard lineuphewitt seems content on running his system for the whole game. Sometimes you just have to throw your hands up and say I'm just going to coach basketball from start to finish.

I know what you're implying, but the difference is we have nobody close to as talented in the low post as Lewis, Thomas, Pearson or Morrison. I'm tired of waiting for guys like J2, Copes and Arledge to step up. If they aren't up to the challenge, then we should go with Marko and Jenkins. At least they look like they give a damn. There was no excuse for Arledge not to drop a double-double on AU's average post players tonight.

Honestly, I wish he'd stop coaching ... if that's what we're calling it.

Just let the guys run up and down the court and play streetball for 40 minutes.

Can't be any uglier or more disorganized than our typical product.

Yeah and a couple of those fouls really were head scratchers.

I liked what I saw in Royal and Marko. Marko has really improved his game over last year.

Exactly, sounds like the Arledge of early to mid last season. He's a senior, he should realize with the absence of Copes he should try his hardest to stay out of foul trouble. American's inside presence is horrendous, just found it strange that Arledge got into foul trouble early and instead wasn't able to assert himself more.

Arledge and others, every game, go out and commit these stupid fouls for no apparent reason. Or, they appear lost, disenchanted, show no passion or heart. Dribble off their foot, make passes like a toddler, catch like an infant. It's the same problems every year. What is it? Do they feel safe on the bench as opposed to the court? Do some of our players feel more safe not playing hard? Which ones need mommy the most? Am I talking about my 3 year old's soccer games? I wish. It's what has plagued this team upon Hewitts arrival. Either he's being too much "mommy" or we have some serious head cases on this team.
