It is kind of funny that we say we would settle for Oduro to average 12 points and 8 boards (myself included), but I did some research and realized even that would be unrealistic compared to the career stats of some other Mason big men (George Evans notwithstanding):

Jai Lewis: 12.2 points/7.2 rebounds
Will Thomas: 11.9 points/7.6 rebounds
Mike Morrison: 7.3 points/6.6 rebounds
Darryl Monroe: 8.3 points/5.8 rebounds
Jesse Young: 9.3 points/6.2 rebounds

These career stats skew low due to the fact that L didn’t need freshmen to play major minutes in most cases, significantly limiting their opportunities.

Per-40-minute averages would be more instructive, I think.

Good point but the way Paulsen recruits big men, we would need Oduro to average that. The guys you listed had other big men to help carry the load. Jai had Will who also had Monroe. Morrison played his entire career with one of the best forwards in Mason history, Ryan Pearson. Jesse Young played with George Evans. I guess what I am saying is I have no trust in Paulsen to recruit big men so Oduro is going to have the opportunity to put up bigger numbers as opposed to the other guys you listed who shared a lot of the "big men" responsibility with other great big men.

Those other bigs also had partners who were good rebounders as well.

But yeah, 12 and 8 would be very impressive. I’d be happy with 8 and 6, especially if he splits time with someone else all four years.

Better starting fives, less bench minutes to evenly distribute the stats. with those guys...

Jai 12/8 on that team way different when you have Campbell/Butler.Skinn/Thomas...Jai on this team would be 18/10 no problem. We might be happy with Oduro 6/6 and good defense if he was on the power CAA teams, ala Gabe.

I preferred the game when there were two true big men on the floor together, a 35-second shot clock, and reliance on an inside-out game. I miss back to the basket play and Will Thomas's hook shot, and 5 pretty clearly defined positions. So maybe I don't understand the modern game as much as I think I do. But I think he looks like an 8 and 6 guy, with a nice Senior-year jump, and that's fine by me.

Don’t forget the Mason has Malik Henry coming in to help Oduro up front. And next year there will be Calixte around too pending some injury that is bound to happen.

Malik Henry is not meant to be helping Oduro and Calixte... He will be another kid that Paulsen ruins playing out of position because he cannot recruit a true big man

We are not beating teams in top 4-5 of A10 in recruiting. Time to start a rebuild. But if Mason wont pay, then keep Lil Dave and relish in mediocrity.

Completely agree that not everything is an apples-to-apples comparison. If Dave is content with only playing one true big man, he better get some knockdown shooters to lessen the load. As mentioned by you and others, a lot of the examples I cited had other big men and guards to spread the floor. No big man is our offense regardless of talent level is ever going to consistently thrive if he's not surrounded by talented players.

I'm thinking Dave is going after a Hewittesque lineup where everyone is 6'7". Next year the starting 5 will be....... Haidera, Miller, AJ, Henry, and Calixte. ;)

someone say, 6’7?
