I think they're talking about a 5th year senior, who is immediately eligible to play (ala Terrance Shannon going from Florida State to vcu for half a year, before getting kicked off/quitting the team).

Correct, but my point is that how many 5th year senior big men are available and if they are any good it'll be tough to acquire. Same goes with a JUCO, if they are any good usually they are scooped up by a power 5 school.

Going to have to bring this up again. Can Paulsen recruit A10 quality big men? Temera looks like he's never played basketball before and Relvao has the speed of a turtle. Wilson looks to be 160lbs still and we have another 6'7 kid coming in. Our program has been spoiled through the years with big men, Paulsen please recruit harder for our next one. Drop everything and go search right now.

Couldn't agree with you more. real tough to watch any time tomorrow is in the game since he is so frantic. And Relvao is just terrible. Wilson, is supposedly killing it on the defensive end in practice, but he does not skinny to me. offseason workouts should help him gain some muscle mass. Goanar Mar is also a string bean. We need a big bodied guy like UMass's Holloway who is dominant on offensive end and ok on defensive end. Filling a team with 6 PGs is great until you play a team like GW that starts three guys over 6 ft 7

True. Easier said than done. As far as 5th year seniors go my understanding is the person has to have finished their junior year and have graduated (likely redshirted their freshman season). Then they can come here. The pool of available players for this is small. Now if we had a JUCO transfer (like Dre Smith) they could play immediately. I'm not sure how many A-10 calibrer big men are in the JUCO ranks. Maybe somebody else knows?

One source for 5th seniors is the Ivy League, where a player loses his eligibility upon graduation. GW has been benefiting from this option.

Who? They have one Harvard transfer who avg 3 ppg and doesn't even appear in most games

Since Paulsen inherited a disastrously unbalanced, talent-poor roster, rebuilding this program has been a methodical, systematic process.

The most glaring weakness on our roster was in the backcourt and he addressed that in the first two classes with Livingston, Grayer, Boyd, Kier and Newman. All 5 of those kids are looking like great finds and none of them had more than 2 stars.

Next on the list he added two defensive stoppers on the wing in Mar and Wilson, who will fill another need in helping defend the many athletic wings in the A-10, and another shooter with range in Greene.

As for the bigs, Dixon is obviously a miss -- it happens -- but way too early to tell on Temara and Relvao.

That said, IF we have a scholarship come open after this season, I wouldn't be shocked to see the staff pursue an experienced big man.

Doesn't mean they'll land one who fits what Dave is trying to do -- as noted, they don't grow on trees -- but our coaches are way smarter at this basketball stuff than any of us. If we see the need, I feel safe in saying they see it too.

I know this his name gets everyone all worked up, but what about Abram playing as a forward. He is 6'7 same height as Jenkins. I mean he cant be worse then Troy or Daniel.

Everyone hated on me before the season when I said I was shocked Wilson was going to redshirt. But it turns out Troy was the one who should have redshirted.

It's crazy how far the pendulum has swung. We used to have a roster full of big men, but no one to bring the ball up the court. Now we seem to have the opposite problem. I think its clear guards carry the team, but its equally apparent you are only as strong as your weakest link.

There's obviously reasons why Abram isn't playing, none of which any of us are privy to for the most part. From what I saw in the garbage time playing Abram got last night, it looked like he wasn't asserting himself on the glass, and he also had what appeared to be a pretty lazy foul underneath. I suspect that defense is part of it, with whatever else is going on. Abram also is thin so I suspect he would be pushed around a lot more. I think Murrell got some run not because he can score, but because hes committed to playing defense.

Troy while a work in progress, shows glimpses of being able to defend and rebound. Obviously scoring has been quite a challenge for him but that may come as the game slows down. Daniel has a lot of the same issues Troy has but I suspect both of them have shown enough glimpses on the defensive end and rebounding to warrant having time. Obviously as fans we want to see improvement but as Jim alluded to above, if the staff feels neither one can cut it, hopefully they can fill the void in some manner going forward. I also think with Mar and Wilson playing next to Relvao and Tamara, that could help.

Bottom line. We have great guards, Our back up bigs suck. Abram cant do any worse and everyone knows it. Something is going on and I wish a reporter would call Paulsen out. Without the fans, there would be no game. The fans deserve a real answer already.

Abram is a tall guard so who isn't as good as the new freshmen brought in this season. He doesn't play defense well and sure as shit can't rebound any better than Relvao or Temara. I really have no idea why so many think this guy is some savior on the bench.

He's like 60 pounds lighter than those two...are you seriously thinking he could have guarded Cavanaugh?

I believe the answer to your question is, yes, yes he could be a lot worse. I'd rather Boyd start at center than Abram.
