Paulsen tweeted out a SI article titled "How college hoops facilities win recruiting battles"
I hope this is an innocent tweet, and not a passive aggressive tweet towards the administration.

It's not passive aggressive. Our admin is on the same boat. There's already plans for new construction/upgrades specifically for our basketball program.

I know Edwards has mentioned upgrades, but I wonder if the ball isn't rolling fast enough for Paulsen

The article includes examples of non-bcs schools comparable to us (Dayton, Butler) who are upgrading facilities. Shows what we're up against so it's material supporting what we are trying to do. I certainly don't read it as chiding the administration in any way. Perhaps more encouragement for fans to donate.

Would be helpful if the school asked instead of always doing this "secret phase" stuff, or only thinking that season ticket holder will donate.

I agree that mason needs to be a bit more transparent when asking for money for projects, however I think the approach right now is okay. They are probably after big donors (ala corporations), and hope that season ticket holders can supplement. I originally was told they weren't going to ask for small donations until they were about 50 percent done. That being said, as you know, anyone who is into the program mostly has season tickets or has heard about the plan for the facility. I also suspect the extra fundraisers they've had this year for the program will help supplement as well. It's similar to the baseball stadium project where they went after the big donors.

True, but there are people like myself who don't have season tickets (grad student, free entry) that they don't necessarily know about. The only reason I found out about this is because I enjoy reading the BOV and Land Committee meeting minutes. If I didn't I would have no clue.

If this was all being done in one large phase I would agree get 50% first. But they need a million to redo the surfacing and hoops (phase 1) and the quicker they get to that the quicker our quality of recruit improves. And I think even small donors could get them over the line on that part of it.

Honestly if you don't have season tickets or visit the board there's a high likelihood you wouldn't be interested in donating. My friends who come with me to games a few times a year wouldn't care that much to give and mostly hear everything thru me anyway. That being said maybe they make some advertisements for it during games this year. Hopefully they have some boards up to show the plans to those casual fans.

I was poking around at a MAAC school's athletic page to see how they have upgraded their facilities and most of it has come from a private donor who had like 3 million to give. I suspect Edwards and co are after a big donor for the facility too as that is where the big piece will come in terms of money.

Granted we arent a Top 20 program even, but sheesh, we cant get a a mil donation after a Final Four run??
I keep playing the damn lottery but my lifetime winnings to date are $33.33. Think that will buy a towel for the dressing room? On a serious note I give as much as my budget will allow. Proud to say that my donations over the years are in the tens of thousands.

Considering ffx is richest county in America, is DP scratching his head re the financial struggle within the Mason AD? Imo, strong possibilty and thus I can see more calls from him and BE to Rise Up in the corp community. Until of coarse another richer program takes DP and/or BE.

It's no longer the richest...Loudoun County is.
