Not a bad plan. I would be okay with a short spring season and a short fall with playoffs if that is what it takes to get football and have healthy players.

https://www.espn.com/mens-college-b...g-bubbles-championships-2021-perfectly-viable:

"NCAA president Mark Emmert endorsed the idea of potentially using bubbles for NCAA championships -- including basketball -- in the first half of 2021, saying Thursday night that it's 'perfectly viable in many sports.'

'Starting with 64 teams is tough. Thirty-two, OK, maybe that's a manageable number. Sixteen, certainly manageable. But you've got to figure out those logistics,' Emmert said in an interview on the NCAA's website. 'There's doubtlessly ways to make that work.'"

"While Emmert acknowledged that the COVID-19 pandemic ultimately will dictate the schedule for winter and spring sports, as well as the fall sports that were postponed until the spring, he said the preference would be to keep the men's and women's NCAA basketball tournaments as scheduled, beginning in March and ending in early April.

'Men's and women's basketball, we've got to do what we need to do to support those athletes and those timelines,' Emmert said. 'We're talking, of course, with our media partners pretty constantly now about what flexibility they would have and we would have. We'd love nothing more than to hold the current dates constant, and that may well be doable. ... We're hopeful we can do that, but we are looking at alternatives. Moving backward if we needed to -- where can we plug that in?'

Emmert announced Thursday that there would be no fall NCAA championships due to the number of teams participating dropping below the 50% threshold in every sport. But he had optimism for having championships in 2021."

"Multiple college basketball officials have spoken to ESPN about the importance of COVID-19 testing in being able to have a men's and women's college basketball season, and Emmert discussed how he's hoping for an improvement in that department by December and January.

'I'm actually pretty optimistic given all of the brainpower and energy and, frankly, money that's being put on the testing issue in the private sector as well as the public sector, that we're months away ... from having much higher quality antigen testing -- in terms of its reliability -- much greater availability of those tests, and at a cheaper price point,' he said. 'And if we can get there, then as we move into the winter, we can do much, much more testing, we can do it frequently, we can do it daily in a perfect world, and it's turned around in 15 minutes instead of 15 days.'"

No fall championships for the NCAA -- https://www.espn.com/college-sports...a-championships-fall-due-coronavirus-pandemic

NCAA president Mark Emmert said Thursday there won't be fall NCAA championships because there are not enough schools participating due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic -- a decision that affects 22 championships, including FCS football.

"The board of governors also established if you don't have half of the schools playing a sport, you can't have a legitimate championship," Emmert said in a video posted on the NCAA's Twitter feed. "We can't in any Division I NCAA championship sport now -- which is everything other than FBS football that goes on in the fall. Sadly, tragically, that's going to be the case this fall, full stop."

Sources: Several conferences in college basketball are viewing the window between the day after Thanksgiving and January 1st as a "golden opportunity" to get games played. This time frame would occur after most schools are done academically for the fall semester.

About time one of our Nerd schools did something for the good of humanity. Now if they could stop paying Chinese scientist to work for them while stealing American intellectual property, we'd be good.

Just want to point out that my nerd state school developed a rapid saliva-based test way before Yale did and it's been available to the public for months -- the Ivy League can suck it. https://asunow.asu.edu/20200526-dis...ffort to make, state's first saliva-based test.

If, IF, we make this work, the the 3 leagues kickoff and play 10/11 games, Kevin Warren might be forced to leave the country.

https://www.espn.com/college-footba...-protocols-ahead-nonconference-football-games:

"After concerns were raised about coronavirus testing at Syracuse and Florida State earlier this week, testing protocols at Liberty University are now under the microscope for a trio of ACC schools scheduled to play the Flames this season.

On Thursday, Liberty coach Hugh Freeze praised the school's strong numbers, saying the team had not had a positive COVID-19 test in three weeks, but he added that the school hadn't actually performed a single test in the past two weeks because no players showed symptoms of the virus.

'We've gone over two weeks without even having to have to test because no one's screened with any symptoms,' Freeze told the (Lynchburg, Va.) News and Advance. 'Everyone's out of quarantine. We haven't had a positive in over three weeks.'

While the number of asymptomatic cases of COVID-19 is difficult to gauge, the World Health Organization suggests as many as 80% of people infected with the novel coronavirus show mild or no symptoms, and the majority of student-athletes testing positive since returning to campus have been asymptomatic."

"NC State's contract with Liberty would require a $2 million buyout to cancel the game within 12 months of competition unless a force majeure clause was enacted. Liberty is set to earn $1.1 million to play the game."

"In its plan, the ACC required 'all nonconference opponents must meet the medical protocol requirements as agreed upon by the ACC.'

Liberty University's guidelines do not require testing without symptoms and suggest testing for asymptomatic students is voluntary. The school competes in the Atlantic Sun Conference but is an independent for football. The A-Sun postponed fall sports amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Liberty released a statement saying the school continues 'to meet all guidelines set forth by Liberty University, the local Department of Health, the Commonwealth of Virginia, the ASUN Conference and the NCAA in terms of its return to campus policies and procedures.'

The NCAA guidelines suggest 'surveillance testing' during the summer, which would include biweekly testing of a reasonable percentage of players and staff. However, once camp begins, that baseline was supposed to be raised to include 'weekly PCR testing of all athletes, plus "inner bubble" personnel for whom physical distancing, masking and other protective features are not maintained; additional testing for symptomatic and high contact risk individuals.'

Liberty held its first practice of fall camp on Aug. 7."

https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/29680815/cfl-cancels-2020-season-citing-financial-losses:

"The CFL canceled its 2020 season Monday, citing what commissioner Randy Ambrosie said would have been "significant financial losses" if the league had played during the coronavirus pandemic.

The league pledged to return in 2021. At the heart of the issue were a series of Canadian government regulations that effectively eliminated the CFL's primary source of revenue -- ticket sales -- and also would have made it a challenge for United States-based players to travel to Canada.

The league developed preliminary plans for a shortened season based in Winnipeg, in a bubble environment. But the Canadian government rejected the CFL's request for a $30 million loan to help fund it."
